Who do YOU think was the GREATEST/MOST DOMINANT SINGLE-SEASON TEAM in NFL History?

2008 Lions
1989 49ers easily. Best offense ever. Best wr and qb ever.

Great defense holding elway to 10 points which could of been 3 or 6 points if not for the pi call in the end one on romanowski.

Best offense with rice and Taylor Brent jones a great ol Craig and rathman. No defense could stop all those playmakers bc 1984 bears and steel curtain did not have great secondaries to stop Montana and that quick passing game.

I remember after the 49er annihilated the Denver Broncos for the SB John Madden and Pat Summerall were both saying that the 49ers may be the best team ever.
1972 Dolphins or the 1984 49ers. And as for the 1985 Bears, 1984 49ers > 1985 Bears.

The 1989 49ers were a different monster altogether. An underrated team is the 1986 New York Giants.
It's no contest -- it's one of the teams that won it all with Joe Montana, Jerry Rice, and Ronnie Lott -- your very own 1989 San Francisco 49ers!
We scored 55 points on the number 1 defense in the league. That is proof enough that our offense could of scored enough to win against Pitt of the 70s and chi of 85 with no passing game and an average secondary. Hands down 1989 niners would of beaten anyone
I can't argue with any of the teams on the list. I know on a national stage, the 49ers 1989 and 1984 teams tend to get ranked behind the 72 Dolphins, 85 Bears and 79 Steelers... but I would have taken the 1989 team over any of those 3. (Obviously this means I rank the 89 team higher than the 84 team.)
I think there was a bleacher report article power ranking all 48 SB champions......they had the '89 team as #1.

Surprisingly they had the '88 team ranked lowest of the Niner teams.....'84 was #2, '94 was #3, and '81 was #4.
1989 49ers.

Dominant on both sides of the ball. Best QB, WR, and DB in the history of the game.

The playoff run really seals the deal for me. They won by scores of 41-13, 30-3, and 55-10. They hit their stride for that stretch run, and holy hell it was the most dominant team ever.

I'd take the 89 Niners over anyone. They were an absolute machine the way they were playing at the end of the season. 85 Bears were great but I think 89 Niners takes them. You're right, the 86 Giants were scary. That Lawrence Taylor lead defense was a monster. Taylor was a one man wrecking crew and the greatest defensive player I ever saw. That Giant defense would wipe the deck with Seattle today. Lawrence Taylor would be on Russel Wilson like a mad dog on a bone.
