I doubt Winston makes the team, but he immediately showed more promise than Hampton. Lattimore is expected to be activated at some point this season, so I think we stash Winston on the practice squad. He will be good competition for next year.
He's played ONE pre-season game, he's got character concerns, and he went undrafted -- I'm not worried that someone would pluck him off waivers.

Well, we've seen Hampton for about 3 years now, why not give Winston the spot if he's out-played Hampton since the day he signed w/us..
or, why don't we give Winston more carries next week, and see if he has a better future than Hampton.

If the coaches do that, it would mean Winston has shown even more in practice and that he deserves it. However as a fan, I think this is an overreaction to a small sample size (and to LMJ not fitting in our vanillia O)
Regarding LMJ though, I think he is either a change of pace guy that has a number of plays designed solely for him, or he is gone. If they can't get him in space and take advantage of his speed, cut his ass and move on. Ellington or Cox can return kicks.

People never learn. Last year it was Lavelle Hawkins torching the Chargers scrubs and people got butt-hurt and upset about him being cut. He did nothing when he played for the Chargers last year and was just cut by the Bucs a few days ago.
I do think Winston is worth a look on the PS, especially over Hampton, but people who think he's going to be on the actual roster are buying the hype way too much.

how can u possibly believe Hampton is better then this kid its year 3 for Hampton & he still cant get into the 53 man roster its not like James final spot on the roster spot is difficult to take away.

Sure it is. James is able to act as a returner, that gives him additional special teams value.

Gentlemen, may I introduce you to the black PJ Fleck, the next (potentially) PRACTICE SQUAD HERO...
Glenn "THE ENTIRE WEBZONE WANTS TO FELLATE YOUR BRAINS OUT" Winston!
((Insert rhythmic slurping, and potentially, gagging sounds))
Yesterday, Mr. Winston ran through a truck-sized hole and scampered for a 27 yard TD, sending the webzone into a state of hyperbolic euphoria! Ran 7 times for 31 yards on all other carries...but by then, the webzone was fingering themselves with a FRENZY!
He's the bees knees! ACL reconstruction can't slow down this SURE FIRE HALL OF FAMER!
THE WEBZONE SPEAKETH HIS GLORY, SO SHALT HE DELIVER!!!
((DISCLAIMER: 204 rushing yards in 2 years at Michigan state; 717 rushing yards last year at Northwood University.))
REJOICE!

On to Winston. He looked good against guys that won't have a job in 24 hours. He's worth a practice squad spot. But for some to say he's better than LaMichael James already, smh. I think there should be a football 101 and 102 thread on here.

hope he gets some more carries at least vs. #2 on Thursday hopefully that will make you a believer. Hampton blows he had his chance.
