Kansas City Chiefs name is "offensive" and should be changed as well.

Getting rid of these team names would really erase Native Americans from the minds of the masses. They should be proud that a team is supporting them and keeping the Native American heritage alive

I guess theres always casinos??
The name "Forty-Niner" is offensive to people with scruffy beards who wore red flannel shirts, loose canvas trousers held up by suspenders, kerchief around the neck, wide-brimmed hats, and wader boots.
^ Easy fix

And change the Indians, Braves, Blackhawks, Seminoles and Fighting Illini while they're at it.

The college teams have support of those tribes, though. Otherwise they would have been changed already.

The one I don't get being brought up in some of these articles is the Golden State Warriors. Yes, it used to be in reference to a Native American Warrior, but now it's a generic classical greek "Warrior" or some bland thing. It's not Native American related at all, at least no more than "Soldier" or "Fighter" would be.

Yeah but Syracuse Orangemen changed to the Orange for some reason. I think people are over blowing this big time. If Redskins and Chiefs are offensive, then so are most of sports nicknames.

It is also offensive to people born in 1965.

....or born in 1949, for that matter.
This is such bu****it! Furthermore, you can find anyone to support a given position, no matter how outrageous it is. I guarantee you I can find Native Americans who do not find either Redskins or Chiefs to be offensive. Conversely, I can find Native Americans who find both names to be offensive. You cannot please all of the people all of the time.

People do not have the right not to be offended!

Get over it and get a life!

I'm pretty offended by the Seattle Seahawks... I think peta should have them change their names to the Seattle s**theads....
"Chief" is a title, and IIRC, isn't even originally a Native American term....so I'm not following the argument here. The Redskins are one thing......but this, for lack of a better way to put it, is stupid.

How did that whole corn dog plus mustard joke start? I've seen it a ton of times on the board, but never knew what it meant.
Redskin seems that it can be offensive and may be a term rooted in bigotry and hate but Chief should be held in high regard if depicted in an appropriate way. Plus there are chief executives in every business. Kansas City Boss!

for 70 years these names were fine and now they are suddenly offensive.

You can thank the media for it. They make a big deal out of it. Seriously, EVERYDAY Yahoo! sports NFL has an article about changing the Redskins name (and soon other names) and they're not the only news outlet that does it. Plus, people in general have become way too sensitive.

Some questions are best left unanswered...
