has anyone seen him playing safety at catawba? really curious about the player. he looks super athletic. has a good special teams kinda build. looks like mike vick in this high school tape:
he's a 49er, but also a mystery man.

McCray had 78 kick returns for 2,194 yards and 3 scores in college.
That is an average of 28.13 yards per kick return.
He also had 17 passes defended in college---3 picks and 14 passes broken up.
So, he brings some return skills to special teams and some ball skills to the defense.
I am rooting for this UDFA.

Me too. We have 4 S's right now in Reid, Bethea, (Ward - slot CB) and Ventrone and Spillman. Both Ventrone and Spillman are ST aces but only Spillman has potential at S (valuable backup). If McCray can show dynamic return abilities beating out the others, he may force himself onto this roster b/c of this plus he has actual potential as a real backup S (something Ventrone doesn't add).

one note LJ McCray = James McCray
Undrafted rookie safety James McCray recorded the only interception of the day when a Colin Kaepernick pass deflected off the hands of his intended target, second-year tight end Vance McDonald, and into the arms of the young defensive back.

" The defensive player of the day? It may have been undrafted safety James McCray from tiny Catawba College. McCray, a big-bodied safety at 210 pounds, broke up a couple of passes during red-zone drills, then nearly made a diving interception during 11-on-11 drills. He's certainly a longshot to make the squad, but he has some ability as a special teams coverage specialist as well. "

Safety James McCray, an undrafted rookie from Catawba, had a very good day with three passes defensed.

No bad news...
Kap threw a pick, which is troubling, and V-Mac had it bounce off his hands.. troubling.

good news---bad news
Good, Kaepernick threw a pass that hit McDonald in the hands.
Bad, McDonald did not catch the ball
Good, McCray caught the ball.
All in all, not too bad.
