there's no way in hell they are going to allow their best player to return punts. that would be beyond stupid.

I wouldn't put it past Pete. He is building a philosophy of best man plays no matter what over there. He's proven to do this in the past few years there. Rod Woodson used to return punts.
Pete is doing what it takes to put his team in the best position to win. Any player can get hurt on any play so why not have the best players playing at any time. The NFC West is so strong that every game matters. SEA knows they ain't getting to the SB without home field.

Perhaps Pete will have Russell Wilson return kickoffs. He might be pretty good at that. If that's the case, I'm all for the "best man plays" philosophy.

while a lot of us feel that way, we're talking about the team who uses the most expensive player in franchise history (until wilson re-signs) to return kicks. anything is is play.

All it takes is one 4th string corner playing gunner and trying to make a name for himself...

I have to agree. You do have to play your best players, but you don't run unnecessary risks. It's a long season and you want your best players playing for you at the end of the year as well as the beginning. Where can your best players have the best effect? Playing special teams - or playing in base offense and defense? That's a judgment call on Pete's part and usually the judgment is play your best players in the regular offense and defense and use backups at the special teams position.

they had harvin returning kicks even after the hip operation, after the concussions vs saints and what not. the point is he is highly paid and had injuries and they still put him back there once he was in uniform. i know most teams wouldnt have earl thomas returning punts, but seattle is a different scenario i think.

If anything Thomas will likely be used in the same capacity the Ravens used Ed Reed on returns. He'll have a handful of opportunities over the course of the season give or take a few, and will be given his opportunities in more or less crucial and or critical game situations.

Question is, who will step in when Harvin strains his pinky toe?
Doug Baldwin looked pretty damn good for Kick Off Returns (see NFCCG). I don't see why he wouldn't be a decent candidate for punts.

Seattle plays starters on Special Teams. And also what you just said above. As much as I wouldn't like to see ET returning punts. I wouldn't be surprised if they let him.

yeah i dont think the traditional method of your stars dont return punts or kicks applies to seattle. the guy with the richest contract in team history (until wilson next year) returns kicks, even after hip surgery and concussions. if it works it looks great if it doesnt its like sehorn all over again

If they put Richardson as a returner they might as well put Harvin there, both are made of glass.
