Have to at least explore the opportunity of this. We could make room by restructuring other players or restructure his deal if he wants to play for a Super Bowl contender too.

SIGN HIM
Restructure the contract, re-do Franks, Gabberts, Vernons, etc...get the cap room...
A threat EVERY TIME he touches the ball.

The 49ers appear to have no interest in asking Gore to take a pay cut.
AB projected we'll be around $12.4 mil under the cap after Rogers officially comes off the books, and we sign our draft picks. So it would be very tough to fit Jackson under the cap as it stands right now. Would love to have him though. He's exactly the type of explosive, field-stretcher we need.

Would rather just have them draft Brandin Cooks or Robert Herron if they are going that route, save the money, save a draft pick for something else.
That would be the most prudent thing to do, and I think Baalke will go that route. He just doesn't make big splashes like these. He knows he can get a player with a similar skill set in the draft, locked up cheap for 4 years. I like Jackson, but $12 mil is way too much for him, even for a proven talent.

Watch this stutter step get-off the line against Sherman, this is how a small receiver breaks loose against a bigger cornerback.
It all comes down to matchups, if your main opponent has a bunch of midget-sized cornerbacks, then you want bigger, more physical receivers who can flat out knock them off the line and get a step on them that way, or simply be able to go up and over them, out-muscling them and making a big catch, even in traffic. But with a guy like Richard Sherman who is 6'4", you're not out-jumping that guy generally, and muscling up against him is only going to throw the timing off on the route, you want to get a clean release off the line of scrimmage, a quick change of direction and get past him as fast as you can.
The 49ers lack that super quick guy with tremendous deep speed at receiver, the one that forces teams to keep their safeties back and results in cornerback's giving them some cushion for fear that the receiver will do exactly what Hilton did to Sherman in that above play. Hilton didn't get the ball there but if it comes his way, odds are pretty good that is going to be a touchdown.

Agreed. I would love to have Jackson on the team, but I think the money doesn't make sense.

Correct.
Also, the Niners get 6.6 mil more on June 1st....Carlos Rogers was designated post June 1st cut so they don't get the space till then.
Frank is still counting 6 mil on the cap and would probably be asked to take a pay cut. What I don't know is how much Jackson counts against the cap this year.

OK, then if thats his cap charge, then I'd agree. Its not happening without a restructure.

Aint that a coincidence 49ers trades TO to Philly now DJax might go to the Niners . I'm with it as long as DJax dont start doing pushups on his front yard in front of the camera and if the niners can afford him in ways that it wont hurt our future cap then why not.

Well...its not actually 12 mil, its a bit over 10.
As Oscar pointed out on Twitter, the 2 is the prorated portion of his signing bonus which would accelerate against the Eagles Cap. It would still result in a 6 mil cap savings for them though.
So now you are looking at 10 mil this season and a bit less in the next few years. It would in effect be 3 years for 30.
You convert some of that first year salary into a bonus and it spreads the cap charge out over the next 3 years (so for example, make it a 6 mill bonus so contact counts 6 mil this year (4 mil salary = 2 mil for the bonus...IE 1/3) but more like 11 or 12 in the next few years (because you add 2 mill to each of those years).
Its probably too expensive, but the question remains...how much is it going to cost to resign Crab? Is he going to want north of 10 mil per? Jackson is signed for the next 3 years.
Something interesting to talk about at least.
