Been reading about Marcus Cooper. profootballfocus.com ranks Cooper eighth for rookies this year. Guy has great size for a corner. Next year, we will lose Brown and will be looking to draft a replacement. Guess you can't get them all right.
wasnt he a 7th rounder? sure we drafted him and he slipped through our fingers, but you could say every team fumbled this one, multiple times, including the team he currently plays for.
I was surprised he didn't make the team actually. Check my prior posts where I stated that basically every player we drafted could make the team. This was a great draft like the old Walsh drafts.
I'm just pissed they waived him for Nnamdi whose basically been warming the bench the entire year. What a waste! Cooper would've been a great addition to our CB tandem this year and possibly the future but now of course, with Brown and Carlos probably being gone next year, CB will be one of our biggest needs. This is why you don't gamble on young talent with potential for old, washed up past their prime players.

He wasn't even a starter at Rutgers. Not hard to justify going with someone who was more familiar with the game and the defensive playbook at the beginning of the season.
Ya, they goofed on this one. It's not the same as other teams missing on him because he slipped to the 7th Round, since we got a much closer look at him than they did. Oh well.
Probably wouldn't even had seen the field with us anyways

"2. Marcus Cooper, CB, Chiefs: Cooper was drafted in the seventh round this past April … by the 49ers. He failed to crack San Francisco's roster, so Kansas City claimed him off waivers. All he's done there is pick off two passes, break up six and rank as Pro Football Focus' fourth-best cornerback in the league this season. Cooper has been a godsend in the Chiefs' secondary, picking up the slack when Brandon Flowers was out of the lineup. The 49ers have to be kicking themselves for letting him get away."

Fourth best corner in THE LEAGUE. Probably would see the field. We are good just not that good.
Some one posted earlier why does Baalke trade for 7th round picks? Because great talent evaluators find talent in every round.

He wouldn't have gotten a chance to prove it here.

I'm glad that our front office is good enough to find those gems and our secondary is good enough to bury those gems.

The Chief's front seven are also playing OUT OF THEIR MINDS. So, you know, that helps his performance.

I know the niners wanted him on the PS, so much like the BJ Daniels deal he was a talented rookie the team wanted to develop and gambled he would clear waivers. Tough to bat 1.000 with all these decisions.

LaMichael James is behind Frank Gore and Kendall Hunter. Our CB corps is not comparable to that at all. Playing time would be there for a good player.

So you were pissed Nnamdi made the team over Cooper before the finals cuts? lol You have to love hindsight.
