Denver (-28) is the BIGGEST favorite of all time

with the opening line at Denver favored by 28, now its at 26.5

For no team has ever gone into an NFL game as a bigger favorite than the Peyton Manning-led Broncos this weekend, with those shrewd sages of Las Vegas setting the points spread at a eye-popping 28 points.

That tops the previous record of 24, set in 1976 when the defending Super Bowl champion Pittsburgh Steelers took on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, an expansion franchise, and duly crushed them 42-0.

But, the Niners do own their own record

Well, it turns out, according toVegas Insider that the biggest spread was not SUper Bowl III, but Super Bowl XXIX, in 1995, when the 49ers were favored by 18.5 over the Chargers. In that game Stan Humphries was to play David to Steve Young's Goliath. But Goliath threw six touchdown passes, beating the Chargers and beating the spread. The Colts were favored by 18, a half point less when they lost to Namath's Jets.

I remember that spread in SB XXIX. Wasn't even nervous for that game. We had already won the SB that year by beating Dallas. SD was just a formality.

The way both teams are [playing - Broncos deserve it.

If Denver plays all out they would easily cover the spread. But, they may have some sympathy on the Jags.

The two casinos showing a money line on the game both have Jacksonville at +3600 or for those who don't understand betting lines $100 bet straight up (no points) gets you $3600 profit or 36-1.
