Cam Johnson being traded to Colts???

typical of these boards our GM manages to squeeze extra draft picks out of guys we were going to have to cut and they complain because its not good enough.
It's too bad Baalke undervalued Blake Constanzo and didn't pay him. Then signing Skuta wouldn't have been necessary and Cam Johnson would be our fourth OLB right now.

Cam Johnson out shined at San Diego and nows he's gone for a pick. They'll are nice back ups. If they wanted a h-back they should've stuck with grey. Don't get why harbaugh wants the whole dam team from Stanford. Who the heck is this Owen fellow

Umm, wont he be the only Stanford player on the 53?
One other thing I wanted to point out: I would agree that in that I would probably have cut Stupar before Johnson but Stupar is most likely a better ST player so thats why he stayed for now. Also, seems like Skuta who is signed for 2 years after this one is here to stay and as long as he is a good ST player it's unlikely that any 5th OLB like Johnson or whoever it may be will pass up Skuta. They will be inactive because Skuta is a good ST player. That being said Skuta looked pretty good rushing the passer too. Let's not act like the guy has never got a sack in his life. He moved to OLB only a few months back and think he had 2 sacks in his first game (?).

so now, we are a charity?

yes, however, we are a profitable charity with this HC/GB, but were not with the previous ones

We signed Skuta to fill Constanzo's role ST. I thought that was obvious.

But how would that keep Johnson on the team? I don't think the last spot came down to Skuta and Johnson. For all we know Constanzo would be here instead of Stupar or Ventrone.

This^^

Niners can turn a smelly old boot into a great dish ... since they had something to do with Cam's improvement, there's no reason to think they can't do it again with another player on the roster.

That's the obvious conclusion when we're only keeping four OLB's. Aldon, Brooks and Lemonier were all locks to make the roster.

I think they planned on cutting Johnson but after that game he had they knew they could get something for him. They had no intention on keeping him. Skuta was a lock when they signed him.
When the team underperforms and or injuries expose the lack of depth at various positions...these dubious transactions will be remembered.

The argument may be that "well they were about to release them, and they were getting back at least something"...but why were they about to release clearly talented players who deserved a shot to prove themselves and develop further?

The final roster is checkered with flawed players too...these moves are nothing but the stuff of hubris. To the point where they are just fireselling whoever doesn't "fit" the system.

Yeah, he has potential but let's face it this year he would have been inactive every game. We weren't going to have 5 OLB active. Skuta will only be active because he is a ST guy. Lemonier will be the backup. I think what hurt Cam is he wasn't a standout ST player. Like I said really don't think they liked having 5 OLB's. I bet 4 is there ideal #. 3 last year wasn't enough for them. Also, I'm starting to think they really don't want 5 ILBs either but think Stupar wow'd them enough and Moody looked promising enough plus him being a 6th rounder and ST guy helped. If we would sign someone else (marecic?) Stupar could be the first to go. Also, TJE or Tukuafu will likely be gone when Dobbs comes back.

Also, I think all of us at one point or another over value our guys. If Haralson is worth a 7th then we are lucky to get a 7th for Johnson. Hopefully its incentive based so if he does well we can get a 6th.

True! But why wouldn't we have Cam on ST? The dude blocked a punt for a TD. When was the last time we made a play on ST? LOL
did they try to showcase him to entice someone to trade for him?

I love the outrage over a seventh round pick that had one good showing in the fourth game of the preseason.

Listen closely: You're not a General Manager. You're a fan with limited knowledge of the inner workings of the team.

I truly hate posts like this.

I'll be happy to call you out next time you post "your opinion" regarding anything football related. By your logic, posters don't have a right to comment on scheme, roster talent, roster moves and pretty much anything other than the color of the new stadium. After all, its all part of the "inner workings" and none of us are GMs, Coaches or even players at the NFL level.....

Maybe we should change the site to 49ers Tailgating Secretes, since that's the only thing we are really qualified enough to talk about.

I see misguided opinions based off poor knowledge and irrational emotional attachment.

I want you to look back through my post history on the zone and find an incorrect talent assessment. You'll find I don't make grandiose positive statements about unproven players because doing so is ignorant to the talent evaluation process of professionals.

When I see a poster specifically call out both Harbaugh and Baalke for their talent evaluation, I find it utterly hilarious that they believe their own opinion is of higher quality than the people the 49ers have hired at millions of dollars per year.

You're a hobbyist and they're professionals. Get over it.

I've read you for a long time and theirs no doubt you very intelligent. However, like Baalke, you're not infallible.

Let me get this out of the way: There is no right or wrong way to be a fan. It's only a game. Yes, a game.

So you tell me to "get over it." Well, I'm over. With that said, I come here to express My OPINION.

Technically, you are correct regarding your assessment of our knowledge base versus the FO. However, realize that their is nothing on the line for us and we mindless, emotional fans are 98 percent of the fan base. Sites like this wouldn't exist without us.

At the end of the day, no harm, no foul.
