Cam was going against a OL in Maxx Starks that was past his prime and just playing Matador in pass protection
Some posters act like we don't have pass rushers Aldon, Brooks, not to mention Carradine and watch lemonhead come into his own

Wrong...he also had a 4th down sack to preserve a win and multiple QB pressures. I believe he also was at the top of the list for these as well. Then he also blocked a punt, score a TD and played well on coverage units. So again, what more can the guy do? And who played better with his opportunities? He was also pretty stout against the run.

Well to be fair
I think of tank as Justin Smith's eventual successor
Yes though, Lemoneer and Skuta are fine OLB depth though

Conditional seventh rounder.
Thats it? Seems kind of s**tty. If the whole point is to look for late round gems...and we probably had one, why trade it away for noting better?
Your right. Don't know what to say.
We traded a 7th rounder that we didn't need today for a 7th rounder we might need tomorrow. One that we could possibly package into a higher pick.
assuming that pick works out
That's part of the risk.
I'm totally down with this. Cam was going to provide nothing for the team this year. So trade him for the chance to get someone who might next year.
I get your logic but couldn't Cam develop into a viable ST option down the road? I think we was/will be better than Skuta so why throw away the higher-younger-cheaper upside?
Because a draft pick doesn't count against your 53 man roster. We likely would have had to drop him later on when we had players coming back.

Pretty disappointed in the crap compensation we've gotten on these last two trades.

It's unfortunate but we I'm not weeping over it, we still have Lemonier and oh yeah this guy named Aldon Smith, I kind of want him on the field at all times.

Good move.
We've got his base covered and now we get an opportunity to bankroll it with other picks to get someone better.

traded our 2012 7th round pick for Seahawks 2013 4th round pick and Colts 2014 7th round pick
You have to remember that the 49ers wanted to sign Chris Harper off the Seattle practice squad. To do that they have to put Harper on their 53 man roster and that means someone on the 53 man squad has to be released or traded.
So, the question is, is it better to trade a guy off the 53 and get something for him or release him and get nothing.
I think if you look at these two transactions together, you see the 49ers trading a 2012 7th round pick for the Seahawks 2013 4th round pick and the Colts 2014 7th round pick.
From that perspective, its a good deal.

Don't you guys realize we didnt choose Skuta over Cam Johnson? The reason we traded Cam was because he is better than Skuta. Neither of them were going to be in the LB rotation with Lemonier being the main backup. Cam just had the game of his life and flashed potential. It's not often a 7th round pick from a year ago, coming off an ACL injury fetches his team an equal round pick the next year despite putting career regular season #s of 0 tackles, 0 sacks, 0 interceptions. If we could've traded Skuta and kept Cam, we would have. But no one is trading for Skuta.
