Source: Packers Adding QB Tolzien

Looks like they want secrets for week 1.

Won't make a diff

Exactly, he knows nothing about the read offense, he couldn't run it. What help would he be.
Wrong. He is God, he is all knowing.

Oh he knows, smart dude

Packers personnel are just nowhere nearly as good as they need to be to stop our offense

It'll be a joke

Actually it probably has more to do with having a lack of quality backups for Rodgers. The guy who should be on their practice squad became the backup after Vince Young was cut. Tolzein is just insurance. If Rodgers goes down behind that average to below average line that GB has, the Packers are screwed. Vince would have at least given them a chance. Rumor has it they want Flynn back.

If it's a savior they want

They shoulda signed Tebow
How are they able to just add him to their practice squad?

Based on what?

Because he's an unrestricted free agent.
Doubt any of them get picked up on waivers. After they clear and become unrestricted free agents then they may sign with other teams.
What about Ben Blown and Buster Hyman?

Ha, that team is desperate to beat the 49ers. Honestly though, I'm not surprised. If they lose 3 times in a row to the 49ers the fans will be calling for someone to get fired... if the 49ers end up winning 4 games in a row and knocking them out of the playoffs 2 years in a row, the fans will be putting a lot of pressure on the team to fire either McCarthy or Capers.

Tolzien will give them a lot of good inside information on Roman and Harbaugh and how they think... he has been in the system for 2 full years and a 3rd offseason this year. I'm sure he has some good intel. Although it doesn't matter, I mean, Capers worked with Fangio for years and hired him as his DC in both Carolina and Houston... that didn't help McCarthy beat Fangio's defense.

No. Screw him. He ain't a Niner and he is providing intel to our week 1 opponent in the season opener of the Sticks swan song. He and the Packers can EAD

I would hope that the 49ers coaching staff is smart enough to exclude guys like Tolzien, and all of the bubble players, from meetings regarding their Week 1 opponent. Or keep them out of any gameplan meetings that occur during camp. Surely they know that some of these guys won't make the team and it'd be really dumb to keep guys like Tolzien well informed so that when he gets cut he can run to the Packers or Seahawks and tell them what the 49ers are planning to do.

Honestly, I think most NFL coaches are smart enough to do this and when teams pick up guys they don't typically get any real useable intel.

Yea, but he still had the playbook. I am sure he must have spare copies of it. One thing for sure though, he will be next to useless as the scout team QB when gameplanning against us cos he won't be able to make all those intermediate and deep throws by Kap.

When exactly does the team begin installing the week 1 game plan?

I am not sure Tolzien has any information about the game plan for Green Bay.

Is it possible that this signing players as an intelligence gathering tool is more of a urban myth than a real occurrence?

I do not really know.
