How did that statement have anything to do with the one's you quoted? Nobody mentioned QB specifically. Gearing up for a Smith defense?
Because it didn't work either way with how they ran the team, and knowing how to handle the most important position in football can make a huge difference to your team see Jim Harbaugh.

This move is mainly bc Rogers will not be with us next year and we are not extending brown......he will cost too much in free agency. We may want to give brown 4-5 mil a year but some desperate team will offer him 6-7 I bet and he will take it. So brown is gone bc we will be extending iupati, Aldon and kaep and we may lose Crabtree and brown. Signing wright assures us of softening the blow of losing brown and Rogers next year and having more money to sign our players that need to be extended. Also, whitner and our C will save us another 7 mil or so if they are gone too, so that will allow us to extend yet another player from that list of Aldon, kaep iupati and hopefully crabtree.
It's simply a future move, we get a former second rounder with a lot of talent for almost nothing, and if we keep him, he may only be 3 or so mil a year for a extended contract if he performs decently.

No risk, and IF he proves he can make this roster then we can cut Rogers and extend Iupati, then Aldon and Kaep. Think big picture people

This makes so much sense, and if true it is absolutely great forward thinking by our front office. This team is not built around a small window, they are being built for being competitive for the SB for 5+ years and the salary cap is on our side with this farm system.
