Which backups? Some of them looked pretty good, such as Lemonier, Wilhoite, Moody, Cox, Hall, Daniels, quite a few actually. Its mostly the backup OL that was hideous.

Discussing is one thing...but every year people go overboard and wanna crown someone's ass because they make a few plays.
Case in point :

That's not too far from the truth. Daniels would have to lay two eggs in a row to not get a spot. You can't ignore how he looked out there. RAW; but the ability cannot be faked.
All of his throws were impressive for a backup. Combine that with his running ability, combine that with the fact that he doesn't have the privilege of normal practice reps like the other quarterbacks; and it all adds up to a situation where you don't want to risk him being pulled onto another desperate team's 53.
A third string quarterback is not a big roster commitment. That's where you develop guys, another team could easily say, "Why not?"

I think he just made the team as the #3 tonight. His play plus Tolzein's second poor outing might have sealed this up. Have to keep it in perspective that Daniels got his TD against 3's and not the 1's and 2's Tolzein or McCoy played against.

I think he could jump to 2nd string if he does well in the next two games. He doesn't have to do much though cause the other two QBs sucks big time.

What they do in practice matters more than what they do in these preseason games where you have no control over what team D will be in there at the time. If you really want a fair evaluation, let each of these losers play with the first team O. While going against the opponents first team D.

Well, you said ALL of the backups, yet Daniels played pretty damn well. Its also tough to tell considering all the b******t handoff's to Hampton that repeatedly led to 3rd and long, over and over, f**king Jimmy Raye redux out there, not to mention a second horrible outing by the backup OL.

I honestly hope Jewel Hampton never gets another carry in a 49ers uniform, he was terrible out there today and they kept feeding him the ball.

Hopefully we get to see Daniels play a lil more next game. I know he was playin against their 3rd stringers but I thought he showed some promise today. I like his athletecism and he showed some touch on a couple passes.

If the only way to evaluate a backup player, is to have them play against first string talent, then the preseason teaches almost nothing about any player to any team.

Daniels looked pretty good out there. He has a strong arm, and is not afraid to chuck a long pass. And he can move. Based on tonight, I hope he makes the roster.
I was disappointed in Tolzien, and McCoy too. At least McCoy showed he can run as he averaged 9 yds on 4 carries.
Last week I gave them a break due to terrible pass protection. This week the coverage was better, though still not great.
Then again, Alex Smith didn't do so well either, though he had a bunch of drops from his receivers.
Dang, once again zero catches for AJ.

Not just a backup player, but backup players. Did our OL make their blocking assignments correctly? Did Celek or Gray perform well at their duties during those run players? Was McCoy/Tolzien supposed to audible to another direction?
