Patton is what he is at this point, a fumbling no playing 4th round pick. Until he starts to show something other than losing games for his team ala Kyle Williams he can go kick rocks. Jesus we were gonna win that game. What a dissapointing season.

LOL, based on what exactly..............as far as I'm concerned they already lost by going into overtime of a game that they had led 28-7. At that point, win or loss became irrelevant considering the poor showing of letting the Chargers back into the game.
It was a meaningless game that pretty much symbolized how this season has gone, the lack of competency on the offensive playcalling, the struggles of Kaepernick and the offense as a whole, the complete lack of cohesiveness, more playclock issues, they fully deserved to lose that game and they did.

You have to treat these last two games like you would the preseason. Win or lose it means nothing since were out of the playoff running. So all you can do is hope we see a spark from those who may not have got much playing time earlier in the season. We got just that from Ellington and Patton. It almost Hurts to see that speed we've been lacking all year. It's been sitting there right in front of our faces.

Lol, that's quite the overreaction my friend.
Patton has shown he deserves some more playing time. He's quicker than Crabs and Boldin and seems to have a passion for the game. He brings a different element to the game than those two, and it was showing last night. The fumble was unfortunate, but it's not like the season was on the line. Off the top of my head I can't think of another significant fumble he's had either.
As I was saying before the season started, I'd rather have seen Patton playing over Lloyd. Lloyd was likely just going to be a one year rental, on a team that desperately needs to develop young WR talent. Lloyd really had no place on this team. Patton and Ellington both showed today they should have been higher on the depth chart than Lloyd.

This. Games don't mean s**t, it would have meant something had they blown out the Chargers, a huge win over a playoff contender would have been a nice gift for the home crowd..........but barely squeaking a win in overtime versus a team that you were ahead of by 21 points.............meh. The way I look t it, 49ers acquired some better draft position and that is all.

100% this. These are all just Self Scouting games. We get to evaluate any talent remaining and also get somewhat of an idea of who our core players could potentially be next season. Other than that, there's nothing else you can really extract from games like this whether we win or lose.

For those who want to call Patton and dud or a bust, you should be more upset at the coaching staff for not utilizing his and Bruce Ellington's speed/play making ability earlier this year. Isn't that what 70% of the board wants at this time, more speed?

This game was a win win for the 49ers. They improved their draft position and are giving players like Ellington, Patton and Alphonso Smith valuable time on offense. Tank Carradine, Jerod Ellie, Dial, get more playing time on defense. I actually think the team looked like it had more eneregy with the younger players and it gives me hope for 2015.

The niners are OUT of the play offs, the end of the year record is now meaningless. Lets not miss the end goal which is to win a SB. Getting a higher draft position is the number one priority to maintain and build for next year. Next game i think the following players should see very little playing time.
1. Crabtree,- Patton and Ellington get the reps
2. VD- Celek and Cleveland
3. Iupati- Looney
4. Aldon Smith- Lemonoir (this is to onlyavoid injury of Alson
5. Justin Smith- Tank Carradine (show him what kind of condition he has to get to)
6. Frank Gore- see how alphonso smith is as a starter.
Now this means NO disrepect to the above players, the goal is to get a higher draft position AND give proper evaluations and game time experience to what could be part of the future.

Plenty of guys who didn't have ball security issues in college have them in the pros.
He hasn't played enough, with enough reps that fumble doesn't happen.

With those two out there the Niner's offense just seemed livelier. There was more passion on the field. After last night, I think it's pretty clear that this offensive staff is not too good at evaluating talent. If Patton and Ellington can play like this, why was Lloyd getting so much playing time? Seemed like those two were playing just as well if not better than Lloyd.

Exactly. I honestly could care less about the fumble. That is correctable. What pisses me off is that why did we wait this long to use those guys.

The thing is that Patton's hands were pretty much a steel vise in college. He rarely fumbled and had the lowest drop percentage of any WR in his class, he was as sure handed as it gets. I think the bigger issue is that you sit the guy out for almost the entire season even though the guys in front of him aren't exactly setting the world on fire and are then shocked when something like this happens after him having very limited reps.

I agree, although in regards to Smith, he is what he's always been. Decent #3 RB, good receiver out of the backfield, dependable blocker but nothing more. I watch a lot of Cardinals games and they gave him every opportunity in the world to be their feature back and the guy just doesn't have it.
I'd like to see Gore get over 11,000 yards as a 49er. I think he needs like 70 yards to get there and depending on how the Cards game goes tonight, they could very well have a lot of backups playing out there next week.

Patton and Ellington looked FAST. Watching QP run Kap down from behind on the TD was eye-opening. Bruce looked very sudden and stronger today. Frank always said he needed to be in the rhythm of the game to play his best (more snaps = better play). I think this proved true for the young guys. I hope the new coach is impressed by what he sees and gets them on the field more, and I hope Roman dies of syphillis and rots in hell, with Dan Marino.

This practice squad player needs to be gone next year. Baalke and seat failures are the reason why we are f**ked.
