No the defense isn't doing that, and the stats are about the same (except QBR which Kaep is higher, and he has more TDs scored).

Plus, it's not about stats, it's about being able to attack a defense, and not playing scared.

Smith attacks the defense in his own way...and it works. He scores and eats up huge chunks of the clock. The Chiefs have won the TOP battle in every game they played this season. Yesterday, despite the horrible second half, they still had a 6 minute advantage in the TOP. Winning the TOP helps the defense a lot, especially late into the season and playoffs.

I agree with your post. And I respect that about Smith's game, but what else is there?

In the last 3 games, SF is ranked 6th in TOP. KC is ranked 13th. SF attacks the defense in the same manor as KC but SF can get big chunks upon call.

Previous post: That TD to McCluster was not very impressive on the QB's part as it was wide open. Nice play call and read but it was a pass that must have been completed. DB was 2 yards behind him and the Safety was 5 yards to his left upon his catch.

Can someone post Smith's 4th quarter stats? He plays very well in the 4th quarter, right?

interesting that you chose the last 3 games instead of the whole season.

For the season KC is ranked 5th. 9ers are 19th in terms of % of TOP.

Looks like he plays better in the first quarter. Plays worse in the 4th quarter when the game is within 7.

The last 3 or 4 games usually determines how the team is currently playing. The 5th overall ranking stresses even more how much the Cheifs have struggled in the TOP area. This points to their offense struggling in recent weeks, enough to drop them from 5 to 13 whereas the SF offense is dominating in this category, enough to move them from 19 to 6th.

Opponents make adjustments to teams as more film is viewed. It looks as if the Chiefs offense is not playing well.

He doesn't seem that bad. The down by 7 is misleading considering it may have been for 4 minutes and there's not enough attempts to really gauge it.

From reading about it here, thought he played very well in the 4th quarter. Not well, but not bad either.
smith plays best under pressure from what I remember him as when he was here. when he absolutely has to get it done he gets the team to do what it has to

No, that wasn't true. In past years, his play was terrible when the score was within 8 points. It has been posted before.
Browns did a few things in the 2nd half that curbed the Chiefs scoring. They got good pressure on Smith. Too much time for Smith in the 1st half. They also did a better job on Charles. He was gashing their defense in the first half. That scoring drive right after the half really help them out. Mistakes killed their comeback momentum.

Chiefs offense needs to adjust quicker to the Browns defensive adjustments. Offensive line needs to respond better in the second half.

Don't know why the Browns stuck with Weeden. They need a vet qb to keep their offense more stable with less mistakes. They should go with Campbell the rest of the way. The Browns have some talent on both sides of the ball. Bess-- what a rough, nightmarish day for that young man. Wide open on a couple of plays but dropped them. Then the muffed punt.

Campbell is a very solid QB. I have compared him to Alex for a while now. OAK screwed Campbell. He was leading OAK to a playoff run, got a minor injury and they bring in Palmer, then let Campbell go.

Campbell is what Alex would have been if Alex didn't have the patience of our GM and owner: solid QB hopping around because he never gets enough opportunity.

Chiefs average time of possession: 32 minutes 32 seconds (ranked #4).
Average TOP at home: 31 minutes 41 seconds. Average TOP on the road: 33 minutes 58 seconds.

Niners average time of possession: 30 minutes 14 seconds (ranked #18)
Average TOP at home: 30 minutes 39 seconds. Average TOP on the road: 29 minutes 49 seconds.
In a league where QBs make and break their respective teams on a weekly basis, even if your an Alex hater you have to give him a little bit of credit. 8-0 is 8-0...

Those averages are not a representation of their recent games. KC stacked up the averages in the first few games. It's like a receiver catching for 200 yards one week and then 40 each of the two following weeks to average 80 a game.

Averages are great but they don't show consistency very well.
