So browns gave him a $28 million 4 year contract. We gave Bethea a $22 million 4 year deal. Whitner says niners offered him$8-10 million less than Cleveland. Hmmmmmmmm did we value Bethea more or just had to offer him more than Whitner because we were up s**t creek without a safety?

Well crap teams are always gonna have to pay for veterans to come play for them......see Nate Clements in 2006. So I think the Browns just over paid a little for Whitner and he's making it seem like the 9ers low-balled him. I'm gonna have to say the 9ers offered him something similar to what they gave Antoine Bethea, which seems fair.

The most notable aspect of the contracts that is not listed on the table is the total guaranteed money. Bethea's contract includes $6.25 million in full guarantees. That includes the $5 million signing bonus, and the $1.25 million base salary for 2014. The $3 million base salary for 2015 is guaranteed for injury, and becomes fully guaranteed if he is on the roster April 1, 2015.Donte Whitner's contract reportedly includes $11 million in full guarantees. That includes his $9 million signing bonus, and his $2 million base salary for 2014. He has another $2 million in guarantees if he is on the Browns roster 5 days after Super Bowl XLIX.

Yep, Bethea is a stop gap for one year. The guarantee's say so. Looking forward to a young safety being selected in the upcoming draft.
Wish him well BUT Browns front 7 isn't even close to our Magnificent 7. Donte will have his hands full.

But they do have Joe Haden and maybe one other good corner, and I think you're underrating the Browns defense.

After all, their problem for the most part has been offensive consistency.

Yeah, Haden is excellent BUT their front 7 isn't. And that's where the pressure will be needed if Whittner will have a season like he did w/us.

Browns are releasing safety Donte Whitner.
Man he was a Niner PB selection only 3,4 years ago. Come back Donte! (Why not.) It's still painful to realize the Niner teams of '12 and '13 ('11 for that matter) were perfectly capable of winning it all. They just needed one thing to bounce their way any of those years. Harbaugh simply wasn't good enough after all, but he was still better than anyone else since SB trophy #5.
Browns did him dirty not releasing him sooner when the free agent money was flowing. Good luck to him, always respected him as a 9er.

The Browns just won't let us have the worst roster in the league. They keep one-upping us.
Saw him tweet something like "Great to be back in Cleveland!" earlier today.

Ouch
