That backfield means nothing with out a legit QB.

I'll miss Whit, I wish him luck playing for his hometown team

Now we sign Tj Ward from the Browns who can play for his hometown team

dude if Cleveland was willing to give Whitner $8M don't you think they offered that OR more to Ward? He's gonna get a dump truck of cash if Whitner got that much money.

Begs the question though...if they're willing to pay Whitner $8+ million, is Ward not worth that much or is he seeking even more money than Whitner got paid?

Being that Whitner is a similar player and 2 years older, you gotta figure that Ward wants more money.

*Also, as a caveat, this $8 million a year number is likely being lobbed around by Whitner's agent, the actual deal might average out to $8 mil but will be backloaded as hell, in the end dude might be getting a 3 year, $18 million deal essentially.

Exactly, if they could pay Whitner 8 that means Ward wanted more. He probably wants 4-5 years at 8-9 a year.

Ward will likely get even more, which is why I highly doubt he comes here.

Bleacher Report has about as much credibility as the National Enquirer.

Depends on who reported it. Some of the BR guys are as credible as ESPN.

This. Should be a forum rule to stop citing the Bleacher Report for anything, its absolutely meaningless.

Chris Simms reported it, I wouldn't put much stock into it.

Hello 3rd round compensation pick in 2015, thank you Whitner.

This. I wanted Whitner back, but figured he would likely be gone. I never thought he'd get 8 million per year. This bodes great for us in terms of having to replace a few players here and there in 2014 and 2015.
I've been asking for the 49ers to go the coverage route since the super bowl ended. The NFL isn't going to let you knock receivers out anymore. LaMarcus Joyner from Fla. St. is the guy to replace Whitner. In the same mold as Earl Thomas and very physical in the run game.
