Whitner catches a lot of flak but the guy shows up to play and delivers some spirited hits. I'm glad he's a 49er

I've been guilty of posting that the niners have to replace Whitner next year, or soon; but it's not because I don't appreciate him...just believe they can upgrade the position. The one area I would worry most about is his leadership. He really steadies the DBs...and you have to love his big play potential. Some of the penalties called have been in error and others have been unavoidable. Hard to always turn the body to lead with the shoulder.

I think Whitner could go somewhere else and start for a few more years but I'd love it if we could convince him to be our #3 safety. He seems like a great leader and mentor.

Hmm...best result! He could mentor two young guys and still be a really good back up. I like that idea.
