There have been stupider name changes for old teams with history, like changing the Oilers to the Titans. I get that there's no oil in Tennessee, so they felt they had to change the name, but "Titans" is the stupidest, most generic name they could have come up with. Anything would have been better. Also, teams like the Lakers moved and kept their old name, so the Oilers could have just gone with it.
While I think the campaign to change the Redskins name is a massive waste of time, especially for the government (Senate majority leader talking, letters from Congress, U.S. patent office etc), if they do change it they should go with Washington Stripes, like on the American flag. Nike could make a REALLY ugly jersey based on that.
Considering what a Titan is supposed to be, that's not a bad name. Crap ton better than Badgers, Cardinal (a tree?!? really?), hell I'll even admit a Seahawk?!? i get it we're Seattle, but a Seahawk doesn't exactly strike fear into the hearts of men. Although it could' have been worse, we could have been the Seattle Salmon, or Orcas (and although Orcas are bad ass animals, the name itself doesn't exactly sound cool either).
Yeah, yeah, the whole Greek myths thing but do they even play that up? no, the logo is a stupid flaming "T" or a generic cartoon sword. Also their colors are boring, uniform is boring, etc etc.
At least the Seahawks are distinctive. I hate their uniforms, so it's inspired
something. The Titans are just infinite "meh"
