That's pisses me off how can you change original teams like the Cowboys, Browns and Redskins!! The announcers are going to still call us the San Fransico 49ers right!?

There have been stupider name changes for old teams with history, like changing the Oilers to the Titans. I get that there's no oil in Tennessee, so they felt they had to change the name, but "Titans" is the stupidest, most generic name they could have come up with. Anything would have been better. Also, teams like the Lakers moved and kept their old name, so the Oilers could have just gone with it.

While I think the campaign to change the Redskins name is a massive waste of time, especially for the government (Senate majority leader talking, letters from Congress, U.S. patent office etc), if they do change it they should go with Washington Stripes, like on the American flag. Nike could make a REALLY ugly jersey based on that.

Considering what a Titan is supposed to be, that's not a bad name. Crap ton better than Badgers, Cardinal (a tree?!? really?), hell I'll even admit a Seahawk?!? i get it we're Seattle, but a Seahawk doesn't exactly strike fear into the hearts of men. Although it could' have been worse, we could have been the Seattle Salmon, or Orcas (and although Orcas are bad ass animals, the name itself doesn't exactly sound cool either).

In fairness, if the team was called the Black/Yellowskins, that name would have been changed a lot time ago. Native Americans are sadly just such a small minority in America (how ironic is that), they got away with it for so long.

Lol I actually like the "Titans" name but I much prefer the originality of The Oilers. Iev never witnessed the change of a teams logo or name, it would ruin football for me if it was my team.

Yeah, yeah, the whole Greek myths thing but do they even play that up? no, the logo is a stupid flaming "T" or a generic cartoon sword. Also their colors are boring, uniform is boring, etc etc.

At least the Seahawks are distinctive. I hate their uniforms, so it's inspired something. The Titans are just infinite "meh"

A Seahawk is another name for the Osprey which is a badass bird. Pretty sad when a Seaturd fan doesn't know this.

Rotf!!
Which is more offensive?

A logo, that makes your race look respectable, with brown skin?
Or a logo that makes your race look half retarded, with bright red skin?

The Redskins should just change their name to "The Indians". That way they can keep their logo.

I know all this politics is ridiculous. How is Chief Wahoo not racist but the 'Redskins' is. Lets ask the wind talkers what they think when they were honored by the redskins last season, were they offended?

Redskins could just change their name to 'skins if it ever came to it

I like how people that say they know someone of a certain race that doesnt have a problem with something, as if that individual is the sole representitive for their "myopic" race.

Ive heard that from white folks and other non blacks who like to say n***a cuz their ignorant ass black friends dont mind. That friend doesnt represent everyone.
Yeah, OK. How about we use your logic to say the person offended is the sole representative for their "myopic" race? See how that works?

I'm a Polish Blonde... Think I get upset with all the jokes? Nope, no time for that. They're funny actually.

This has become a political issue and its terrible especially from the MEDIA who have NO backing on this 8 of 10 Native Americans do NOT find it offensive. Their is nothing negative about the name REDSKINS, usually the ones that complain have no clue, like their song goes:

Hail to the Redskins!!

Meh. I need to go to a reservation and say, what up redskins and see if they get mad. Have a feeling they just may.

I work in an Indian casino, know hundreds of Indians. I've asked them and none have said they cared
An answer I once got was
Me: Redskins suck, I wouldn't want them representing me?
Them: well at least were good enough to have a football team named after our race! I bet you'll never see a team named after your race. No Los Angeles Wetbacks for you hahaha
Me: son of a b***h hahaha

lol

Minnesota Ojibwe here ....I could care less about the name ...and I cant name one member of my family that has ever been offended by the name ...probably because we have been called much worse ...hell ...I have cousins that are redskins fans and own the teams merchandise ....it seems to us its the urban Indians that are leading the charge to get the name removed ...us native americans that live on the reservations could care less about the name ...we have more difficult issues to deal with, rather than stew over a team mascot

Great insight from the opinion of someone who actually matters on this topic

From the outside looking in (i.e., me not being Native American), I always thought human-based mascots (e.g., Redskins, Cowboys, 49ers, Rebels, Warriors, and Packers) were a cool homage since these are based on something culturally significant.

thanks partner

I know what an Osprey is, forgive me if my definition of bad ass animals though are usually reserved for things like Lions, Tigers and Bears...Oh My!
