Greg Schiano per sources "@RapSheet: The #Browns spent the morning in Florida conducting an interview with an as-yet unnamed candidate."
I keep reading this topic title as "Coach Carroll".

At least three assistants have said no thanks to the Browns. Arizona defensive coordinator Todd Bowles, a respected coach who has been in the NFL for almost 20 years without getting a shot at a permanent head-coaching job, said no. Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels, who is from Ohio and should feel fortunate to be getting considered for a second chance after an absolute debacle in Denver, pulled out of consideration. And now Gase, with all of one year as a NFL coordinator, doesn't want it either.

Again, there are only 32 of these jobs in the world. No coach can be sure he'll ever get a shot at one. And multiple assistants have turned Cleveland down. The Browns can't exactly go into a press conference after they finally hire a coach and pretend he was their first choice, can they?

The fallout from firing Rob Chudzinksi after just one year might be much stronger than first realized. The Browns fired Chudzinski after one season despite injury issues at quarterback and trading running back Trent Richardson early in the season. They canned him without any great reason, at least none that have been revealed publicly.

This is a franchise with a good defense, some good pieces on offense (tackle Joe Thomas, receiver Josh Gordon and tight end Jordan Cameron among them), the fourth overall pick of the draft and another first-rounder thanks to the Richardson trade. Cleveland has a tremendous fan base that is desperate for a winner. It should be a fairly attractive job. And nobody seems to want it.

Last week Browns owner Jimmy Haslam told fans through an open letter to not worry. Well, worrying seems to be the proper reaction now.

Absolutely this.

I'd like to know whether Lombardi or some other guy fired Chud. Anyway, complete morons over there.

Pettine spent four hours talking with Cleveland's brass Tuesday night in Mobile, Ala., at the Reese's Senior Bowl.

According to NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport, the feedback Pettine received is that he is a finalist for the position. A source informed of the Browns' plans said Pettine will fly to Cleveland on Thursday for a third interview.

Rapoport later learned that Browns brass spent Wednesday morning in Florida conducting an interview with an unnamed candidate. This information came from a person informed of the team's thinking.

And the mystery candidate was....

The Browns interviewed ex-Bucs coach Greg Schiano for their head-coaching vacancy on Wednesday.

Don't laugh: It's true. Reports surfaced Wednesday of a "mystery candidate" in Cleveland, and it's beleaguered ex-Tampa man Schiano, whose tenure with the Bucs was an abject disaster, from MRSA infections to rushing-the-victory-formation nonsense to an 11-21 record in two seasons. Schiano's 2013 Buccaneers underachieved spectacularly, so it makes no sense why any NFL team would target him as a head coach. Enter, the Factory of Sadness.

If you need to keep an interview a secret because you are so afraid of the public reaction …

Reports: Schiano won't be Browns next coach

The Cleveland Plain Dealer, Akron Beacon Journal, and NFL Network are all reporting Greg Schiano will not be the Browns' next head coach despite his Wednesday interview with the team.

CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora simultaneously reported late Wednesday that Schiano is very much alive in Cleveland, but it sounds like the Browns are trying to throw water on the fire that erupted when word leaked of Schiano's interview. Multiple reports now indicate Bills DC Mike Pettine is the favorite, with Seahawks DC Dan Quinn not a serious candidate. So signs point toward Pettine getting the job. The NFL couldn't have handled another year of Schiano anyway.

Lombardi was the general manager at the time Rob Chudzinski fired; Joe Banner was CEO and Jimmy Haslam, the owner.

When Chudzinski was hired, Jimmy Haslam was the owner, Joe Banner was the CEO and Michael Lombardi was the Vice President of Player Personnel.

according to my research, Chud was hired in December 2012 whereas Lombardi came in in mid-January 2013.

Along with owner Jimmy Haslam, CEO Joe Banner and Vice President of Player Personnel Michael Lombardi, Chudzinski has been asked to make the Browns relevant again.

Lombardi was in the mix when Chudzinski was hired.

But, I do not believe he was the general manager at the time of the hire.

Mike Pettine hired as Cleveland Browns coach

Welp. Guess that means we're stuck with Roman for at least another year. Seattle too, keeps all of their coaches in tact.
lol gonna fail lol
