I would have no qualms trading Haralson if Fleming and Johnson impress, but I'm doubtful they'll do enough to supplant him, even though they're solid prospects.
If they don't trade him, Haralson is at risk of being cut given his reduced role, inability to play special teams, high salary and lack of production the last few years. Not that I want it to happen since I've been a Parys fan since his days at Tennessee, but Harbaugh isn't afraid to go with rookies as backups if they show they're capable.

I like the pick a lot. Junior production was good. Senior production dropped. I understand there was a leg injury of some sort? Sickle cell scares me. He's far better with more upside than where he was drafed. He has real pass rush potential in the 3 - 4 OLB.

Agreed. If these guys do well, I think we'll have faith in them as backups. I think Aldon and Brooks can hold it down fine in the starting rotation. Parys Whiffalson has frustrated with me so often by his constant failure to make a play when in perfect position to do so.

Hate to say it, but it's definitely true....his time with the Niners is short.

Do you all realize that we primarily play a 3-4, but what happens in 3rd down situations can really make the formation crazy. So you have a bunch of pass rushers who also can cover, what kind of options does that give Fangio.

It was thought he quit on plays, which goes to heart, and that is not coachable over the long run. In reality, it is fatigue caused by the disease, which means that he can't play eight downs in a row. That is coachable for a pass rush specialist. Go Johnson.

I see this as similar to what the Lions do with D-linemen rotations, except since we're a 3-4 we could do it with linebackers. Get enough pass rush specialists and you can rotate them in and out, move them all around, constantly mix things up to keep offenses guessing with their blocking schemes. With Aldon now playing on all downs, we can start to experiment moving him around like Dallas does with Ware to exploit defenses. You sometimes see an offense accidentally block a guy like Ware with a tight end for example.
This also does give us flexibility as far as Haralson goes, but I do still like him as a backup if we can afford to keep him.

we cant lose haralson though and have 2 rookies as backup
one still has to make the transition to OLB and the other is purely a pass rush specialist
harlason is pretty god in coverage and against the run

That's what we all thought about the QB position last year...and that's the most important position on the roster!
Just sayin...

true but were risking it if someone gets injured especially when the solution is to just keep someone on the roster
im not saying he should stay on it indefinitally just this year
we could easily hide cam johnson in the PS and let him learn the position (the 5th round pick forgot his name atm is an OLB pass rush specialist) who also actually has injury history as well as does brooks

Good value in the 7th round. I like this pick more than the LB from Notre Dame. Both will have to battle it out for that fourth OLB spot.

We expect Aldon to play between 260-265. I think like Alex Boone and other players, Johnson will get into our fitness program and drop a little weight to get stronger and faster. Let's say he drops 5 pounds, but adds strength and speed. You've then got a 6-3 263 pound linebacker/nickel end tweener.
I see your points...now he sounds a lot more intriguing. Many thanks, OTC...
Cheers!

I hate to be an ignorant honky but does flying affect the disease (since altitude apparently does)?
