Balkke does it again!
lol.
It doesn't take too much confidence to draft a person who is widely regarded as a reach.
Its almost like this guy views "reaches" as "players in the rough". Its like he says, people project this guy later, but I see something in him where he can contribute in our system. Good GMs do that.
Harbaugh and Baalke have my trust so I'm not lambasting the pick at all. It seems to me that they feel in love with Jenkins. I think we could have gotten him had we traded down.

Just being honest. Otherwise, why not say "he's our calvin johnson!" if size doesn't matter. I am happy with it now given this is who baalke wanted from the start.

We have some size at receiver already. Randy Moss, Michael Crabtree (not a giant, but he has a great vertical), Vernon Davis (although not much of a leaper). If this kid turns out to be Mike Wallace, then why not? Wallace had a 4.33 40, Jenkins with a 4.37, same size/weight.
If he's like Mike Wallace... why don't we just trade for Wallace and try to negotiate a realistic contract?
Because Wallace wanted a Fitz like contract, and he likely wouldn't of budged much on it. He isn't signing his RFA tender until time for him to do so.

Oh man, if Baalke has picked someone who can do what Cruz did last year then we have ourselves a football Nostradamus on our hands.
He has the same height/weight as both him and Mike Wallace, and had better stats in college, so who knows...

Most analysis I have heard, say that Jenkins was projected to go near the top of the 2nd, so how is that a "reach" at 30?

I'm thinking more like Jason Hill -esque.
Besides,
more than likely,
Moss will get injured and or suck.
Steve Wallace is that a crossbreed of Steve Smith(panthers) and Mike Wallace?!?! If so I want!

Cause Green and Jenkins have the same first name, and Green had a good rookie year.

Watched Illinois football the last two years, thanks to my best friend being a former Illini. Jenkins is a good receiver...not great. Has the wheels though and can stretch the field. Not much of a blocker and dropped passes between the hash marks. Not 1st round talent and probably a 2/3 receiver at this level. But great stats last year at Illinois. Could have got him cheaper and later in the draft. Joins a now crowded receiving staff. We'll see if he creates much impact this year. Kind of a surprise pick but hope he can contribute.

Posting thsi snippet from an Insider article:
Separation skills
The challenge when evaluating a receiver's separation skills is to sift through potentially deceptive variables, including his supporting cast and offensive system, and the types of defensive coverage and level of competition he faces. While there's no exact formula, the two most critical ingredients are suddenness and savvy as they pertain to route-running. Can a receiver get open, or is he forced to make contested catches due to his inability to separate?
Top in class
1. Kendall Wright, Baylor
2. A.J. Jenkins, Illinois
T3. Keshawn Martin, Michigan State
T3. T.Y. Hilton, FIU
T3. Jarius Wright, Arkansas

Well this means Williams is gone. And so much for Crabs playing in the slot.
Baalke said we may carry 6 WRs during the season
Moss, Crabs, Manningham, Williams, Ginn, and Jenkins.......maybe?
If we only dress 5 it will be between Williams and Jenkins
Laughed out loud when I read this...Niner Talk at it's finest.
on gamedays we wont dress 6 WR's so you dress 5, the last spot will be between jenkins and williams
Still laughing.
because you dont understand how the numbers work....?

He was the entire Illinois offense and was keyed in by opposing defenses.
