LOL all the Stephen Hill vs. Coby Fleener talk went down the drain. Baalke does it to us again, I was expecting this.

Also, I should say that I very much hope I'm wrong. I understand I'm being bold when I say I don't expect Jenkins to be more than a #3 at least initially.

But let me warn this, to say those who don't like Jenkins are stupid and wrong would presume that Jenkins will automatically be a success and that Baalke will be right on almost every pick he ever makes. That's obviously not realistic.

Around the league, opinions on Jenkins were MASSIVELY VARIED. Most either thought he wasn't that special, or they loved him. I fell into the first category. I thought he was a guy who would provide good depth and play well on STs. I could be wrong and will happily be the first to admit it if I am. I just personally did not like the value. I have had my say in what I expect from Jenkins, but I will never write a player off even if I have tempered expectations for them.

Some players surprise and despite the expectation that they won't carry over their college numbers, they wind up doing well. I have very reserved expectations, but we will see. Hopefully he proves me totally wrong.
To me this is isn't about how good he will or won't be. Even if he ends up being great, if we could have gotten him later then why draft him so early? It just doesn't make sense. Trade down. Or pick someone else and then trade back up to get him where his value lands him. Drafts are all a crapshoot, so the best you can do is try and get the most value at each pick. We did not do that today.

You are assuming that no one would have traded up or drafted him before the Niners, if they traded down. Jenkins may have not been desired by some of you, but insiders say that he was desired by other WR needy teams. Even Baalke said you would be surprised how popular Jenkins was.

If you like a player, take him. If you don't, you may not like the results.

Trading back with the Vikings would of had us draft third in the 2nd round. The Rams will probably take an OL and the Colts will take Fleener....then it would of been us.

Again, that is assuming no one would have traded up for him. No one knows, and no one will ever know, since Jenkins was taken at 30.

So let that "someone else" draft him too high. No reason to reach that far, is all we're saying... I don't understand why that is such a difficult concept to understand. Perhaps the new rookie pay scale is playing into this. Not as much risk for grabbing guys early, so why not if you really like a player.

How is it a reach if that is the value you have on a player? Is it so hard to understand that every team has their own board with their own value placed on a player. It isn't like there is some big objective board that is true for every team. A lot of team's boards had Jenkins high, and the Niners were one of those teams. Seemed to work out last year with a lot of players, Smith, Culliver, Hunter, Miller, perhaps Kilgore. It's only a reach if you are drafting a guy on your board that isn't slotted for that position in the draft.

What people are saying on here is that they don't like Baalke and Harbaugh's board, which is fine. They like doubters and like making them eat crow when they are going to NFC Championship games and winning Executive of the Year awards.

Okay no need to get all emotional and defensive. He's a 49er now and you have his back. I do too. He looks very fluid, has big hands, and plucks the ball very well. I like that he's a senior and he interviews well. He seems very smart, and humble. Harbaugh had great things to say, and Baalke obviously liked him. I hope he ends up being a HOFamer.

Just trying to be objective and leverage this draft as much as possible. I don't see what's wrong with that.
Welcome to the family AJ!!!!! At first I was like ?.......then reality quickly settled in and I realized that was the same reaction that I had with Aldon Smith being selected and we all know how that turned out.

Living in Chicago, I was able to see a lot of Illinois games and I think fans are gonna like Jenkins. He produced in a system that isn't known for passing. He's a hard worker and great attitude.

CHICAGO49ERFAN
I can't wait for this guy to blow by everyone and become a TD machine, then everyone who says this was a massive reach will be quoted.

With this quote right under all of them.

that was kind of what every person was complaining about.....remember

there is a reason why people wanted Hill, Fleener, Randle, Streeter..etc etc...a big tall body

Like I've been saying all offseason, people on here overrate height. Victor Cruz is only 6 feet tall. Manningham isn't tall either. These guys are play-makers and that's what your team needs.

I think I trust someone who watches film and knows how to scout over people who just pick the tall guys and watch 5 minute youtube highlights .

Its not just about height, I agree. The ability to run crisp routes and get separation and have good hands, also helps in scoring.

THIS. All of a sudden if a player isn't 6'4+ he isn't a red zone target. Hands, Route Running and separation are more important than size.

Not saying he cant be but most of the top TD leading guys were 6'2 or bigger.

Greg Jennings, Jeremy Maclin. This kind of receiver is a staple to the WCO.

I'm fine with the pick and just hope he lives up to what they see in him. Time to find that guard now.

Dude, you need to be a better lier to post in here... you are a freaking football genius, and your cousin is a scout with an NFL team that said they were trying to trade up with the Ravens to pick Jenkins but the Vikes beat them to the punch.
I'm better with this pick now.

~ Big production.
~ Fast.
~ Quick.
~ Great hands.
~ Great routes.
~ Separation ability clearly seen on film.
~ Runs every route well.

He honestly reminds me of Marvin Harrison. I'm calling star player.....

Blame WR coach Morton..its his inability to evaluate wr talent (see Ronald Johnson)..He fell in love with Jenkins in the pre draft visit and convinced Harbaugh thus convincing front office that AJ Jenkins was the man to choose over Fleener and Hill, Alshon, Sanu, Randle, Quick and every other receiver in the draft..

source?

Seriously tell us the time of the conference call and I'll listen for this that he expressly mentions that Morton told him to pick Jenkins, all I heard was "our scouts had the board laid out this year and it worked out the way we wanted"

A first round pick, even at #30, should contribute right away. I don't see Jenkins doing that. It just makes no sense when there were guys available who could have contributed, even started, right away - to take a guy for depth or to develop.

If we didn't draft a guard who would win the job outright nobody we could've picked at #30 would contribute significantly in year 1. We have NO needs right now, we currently have 3 players capable of starting at RG so naturally the FO is thinking to bolster other parts of the roster before looking into filling the RG need.

If we had drafted Stephen Hill, Rueben Randle, Kendall Wright, they would be in the same boat as Jenkins, competing for time against Ginn, Moss, and Williams.

Had we drafted Fleener he would've been competing against Walker and Byham

Quit whining just to whine, this team is loaded with talent, no pick from this years draft will contribute in a massive amount of playing time.

Sensitive much? I don't think it's "whining just to whine" to say I want my 1st rounder to contribute right away.

Actually there is, it's Todd McShay's. NFL GMs just don't realize it.

Well with the addition of AJ at least Kyle Williams should be out. Pretty much the most positive spin I can put on this...

No. We still lack a WR corps. We will keep at least 5. I say KW makes the team. Just keep him away from returns....

I was satisfied with what KW did in the season. But this kid cost us a date with the Patriots in the Superbowl. Our defense and special teams could have gone down as one of the greatest ever. I can't stand to look at KW in a 49ers jersey anymore.

Lol this is true! Man I missed this comment... Susweel saying something positive about a 49er. I don't know what that means for him, but it does make me smile haha

my argument is regarding your first post in this tree.

listening to MM earlier, he said this was a pick with a look to the future of the WR corp.

We are in Superbowl mode now and I want TD's...if all goes well he starts at slot. This move still screams Moss will be the guy.
People doubted Harbaalke for drafting Aldon last year, and look how that turned out. This dude is talented and could be a STAR, just like Aldon.

It's the offseason and the fans wanna act like GM's.
