Adam Schefter @AdamSchefter Filed to ESPN: Colts are fielding telephone calls from teams interested in trading for perennial Pro Bowl defensive end Dwight Freeney.

Whats going on with the Colts is why I appreciate the way the 9ers are building. Indy had a great run but they built their team around a few guys with massive contracts and now they have to completely gut it. I guess when you have players like Peyton and Freeney though you have to play them.

I would love to have him, but it's a little late in his career to try and switch him from a 4-3 DE to a 3-4 OLB
if we could grab him and use him as an edge rusher in passing situations, that would be AWESOME, he would give us another Fred Dean and give our defense that added boost with his pass rush

Freeney is still too valuable as an every down 4-3 defensive end to come here and be a 3rd down pass rush specialist. Would be sick to see it happen though. Smith, Smith, McDonald, Freeney on the line together! Scary good!

sign Mathis to a lucrative extension, trade Freeney, release Manning, lose Garcon and Wayne....
they're going to need luck more than Luck.

Next thing you know we're gonna be hearing, the Colts looking to trade out of the 1st overall pick.
Man just think of all the picks/players they could get for Luck.

4-3 end, Brooks and McD were recently re-signed, and Aldon was drafted last year.
Not gonna happen.

Honestly though, I think they're going about it the right way. If you're going to rebuild, then rebuild.
Too often we see teams who need to rebuild, but try to appease the fans by bringing in mediocre talent and one big name. That just results in a 6-8 win season and average draft choices.
If Luck lives up to even half of the hype he gets, in two years the Colts will be the place to play for any FA player on offense. And they will have been built sustainably. Taking the short term hit in losses should prove valuable if their scouting staff is solid.

Especially now when a top 5 pick isn't a cap killer.
And I would take freeney if he was willing to be a part timer and payed well enough for it. But he is too good for that and will not go to any 3-4 team.
