Since I'm assuming anyone should be able to hold on field goals and extra points if they're coached how to do it and practice it a bunch, why is it always the punter or backup QB? I think it should be like a safety or something, that way in case it's blocked and picked up, you have someone with some speed and that can tackle to hopefully be able to prevent a long return. That's why so many blocked kicks are returned for TD"s- because the kicking team doesn't have a single player on the field that can run a 40 yard dash in under 5 seconds while the other team has several.

It takes a s**t load of practice to make the PAT/FG exchanges flawless. That's valuable time a DB would have taken away from preparing for his real job.

What about a DB like Colin Jones? He doesn't even practice defense anyways and his job/all he focuses on is special teams...well, this is special teams.
