Suppose a team has, say, a 3rd and 10 from the opposing team's 25 and then gains 6 yards so it's 4th and 4 from the 19 and then they kick a FG...does that count against their red zone TD% Or does there have to be a 1st down from within the red zone for it to count as an official red zone trip?

That a good question, andes. Let's go down to Kim Coyle and find out.
