Interesting stats about DeSean Jackson

Haven´t seen it posted yet, but Bill Barnwell has a very interesting article where he has a possible explanation why the Eagles might not be so eager to resign DeSean Jackson:

According to this, Barnwell thinks DeSean Jackson has to develop into a better receiver and right now has too much of the dropsies:

Quote:
There are several players similarly styled to Jackson who have better catch rates over the past three years. Lee Evans and Ted Ginn, neither of whom has lit the world on fire recently, have catch rates narrowly ahead of Jackson.

Quote:
The game tape also suggests that Jackson isn't catching the ball frequently enough, as the Football Outsiders Game Charting project marked Jackson down for 11 dropped passes last season, the fourth-highest rate in the league. In 2009, while Jackson had a more reasonable six drops, four of them came on plays in which the primary defender was listed as "Hole in Zone" — in other words, passes when Jackson was wide open and let a pass slip harmlessly to the ground.

Barnwell has some more stats, but he thinks, DeSean Jackson is not catching the ball consistently enough so his highlight catches get sorta wiped out by the other balls he does not catch and forces the offense to punt.

At least an interesting point and a good read and if the Eagles front office sees it similarly, that might explain why they have no resigned DeSean yet.
The guy is one of the smallest players in the NFL. His hands are small. May explain the dropsies. Let's keep an eye on it this year. I never noticed his catching ability before
the dude has the most "big plays" in the league and can return punts like devin hester

He's tiny. His career could be over with one hit. There is a lot of risk to signing him long term.
id still sign him

Except Jackson has a history of serious concussions and that can't be said of every NFL player. He's 25 pounds lighter than most safeties and 75 pounds lighter than most linebackers.
Too bad stats don't show how a player forces a defense to play outside its comfort level and make adjustments.

best player on a 99 yard field. UNSTOPPABLE.
Clearly Desean Jackson sucks and Freddie Mitchell was the best WR to EVER play for the Philadelphia Eagles...obviously..
I wonder if the eagles might let him walk after this season? After signing Steve Smith.

He has had one that I can remember. Sure, he is lighter than CBs and Safeties - but is also very elusive - which makes it hard for defenders to really light him up. Plus, he has also shown in the past that he can take big hits and get back up and play. He is not soft.
