I get the whole "The Rooney Rule" is disrespectful to black coaches, thing. But keep in mind, when Singletary took over the Niners, he was only the 10th black HC in NFL history. 10th. If you don't think that is odd, then something is wrong with you. The Rooney Rule might not be perfect, but stats like that prove that something needs to be done to help qualified guys get a chance.

Of course it was a sham, it was obvious from the get go. The Rooney Rule is a joke and totally disrespectful to minorities.
.... but the majority always seem to bend the rules with no consequences as always in everything in life
Exactly. This rule was actually quite helpful when it was first established in 2003. But now its a complete joke. Look at all the black coaches who are good HCs. and have jobs. Tony Dungy, Raheem Norris, Lovie Smith, Mike Tomlin...
I don't think its much of a problem anymore.
Dingy isn't coaching and I don't think those guys needed that rule to get a gig. Who cares if teams abuse the rule. The fact is that it gets minority coaches an interview, a foot in the door. It's their job to impress.
I'm mentioning all successful black HCs in recent history...
And I know that those guys didn't need to have that rule, but its just that, IMO, racism in hiring NFL coaches isn't as big of a deal as it was, say, 10 years ago.
I know it still exists, but the Rooney Rule itself is racist. Its kind of ironic..
agreed. it's like saying hmm minority coaches aren't good enough to get jobs so lets give them a better chance by getting them a bulls**t interview that is being conducted just to fit this rule
Yeah but just the fact that the minorities name is thrown out there helps the minority. It puts a national spotlight on the candidate and other teams will look into the resume to see why he was considered
Well, often, the reason this si b/c the team has to comply with the rule, so...yeah.
I'm not sure what you are trying to say. But if it weren't for the Rooney rule I would have never known who Sherman was. Now a college team could consider him for a HC position bc the Cowboys interviewed him and
Put his name out there
Well thats why you aren't hiring football coaches, College ADs and Front Offices dont make their lists through the media coverage, the dictate the media coverage. Teams keep lists of head coaches and have individuals that look into such things. Normally names get discovered because they are tied to some sort of success, not because they are a minority.
To be interviewed at all is tied to some success
Or quite simply the Rooney rule.

The surveyed fans also were somewhat divided on their views about the need for the NFL's Rooney Rule, which requires consideration of minority candidates for head coaching and senior football operations positions. Of black fans polled, 57 percent believe the rule will be needed for years to come, compared with only 20 percent of white fans. Twenty-three percent of white fans indicate the rule was never needed in the first place, while only 7 percent of African-Americans feel it is unnecessary.

No. Being qualified makes you qualified. He's suggesting that qualified people don't get an opportunity, often because they're black, which he is supporting with a statistic. Not saying I agree or disagree with that, but that's what he's suggesting. If there are any other posts that need explaining, feel free to ask me.

If you wanna start at the top of the forums and explain each post that would help. Do it in groups of 5 please. His words are that the stats prove that something(i.e. Rooney Rule) needs to be done to help qualified guys get a chance. Rooney Rule deals directly with minority candidates. The poster infered that though not perfect, the Rooney Rule, gives qualified guys a chance. The rule doesnt say anything about requiring a qualified guy. Ah, nevermind. I will just go on record as saying I dont like the rule at all.

And I will agree with you. But if you want to debate a guy, just do it. No need to bait.

Rooney Rule is Horrible! If I owned a team I will hire who the hell I pleased! They should implement Rooney Rule on positions on the football field since they spend more money on the players.
