i am going to stick to my guns and say that singletary is a stubborn a*****e who refuses to see flaw in his philosophy.
Sing only met with Walsh 2-4 times for around 6 hours where Harbaugh was around Walsh frequently. In addition Harbaugh learned a lot just by watching and observing (comment about former players visiting and just leaning against the wall and listening) Walsh and how he did things. Remember Walsh was very influencial in getting Harbaugh his job at Stanford obviously Walsh saw things in Harbaugh many did not.
You are right Sing was very stubborn, very defensive minded in his thinking (i.e. QB are like any other player on the team), and reluctant to try new things. The irony is that in some way Sing was on the right path defenses are geared for the pass if you can have a smash mouth run game as we are seeing you will be successful. Sing just didn't know how to implement the plan and he was not a person who was very precise which appears to be a major criteria for a succesful NFL HC.
As stated in an article Walsh turned football on its head with his version of the WCO. Defenses and especially LB were geared toward the run in those days and with the WCO LB who were drafted because of there run stopping ability could not stop the pass. Harbaugh is doing the same thing as Walsh accept with the run. Defenses are now focused on stopping the pass and LB now of days are drafted to be able to stop the pass, cover TE. Bring in Harbaugh and look at how he creates mismatches in the run game and defense can't stop it. Look at Stanford everyone is doing the spread offense and Harbaugh was running a pro set or i formation allowing him to develop a run game that would punish and suck the life out of defenses.
