I bring this up because the premier coaching pool is pretty shallow..... I would love to get Gruden or Cowher.. Even though I doubt Cowher would up-root him self to move West. Singletary is basically a dead man walking at this point. And with the upcoming labor issues, I think getting a new HC in place ASAP will be crucial for off-season moves. I say either go after Gruden hard or look for a young up and coming coordinator. Thoughts??

Looking like at a minimum 6 to 7 coaching changes next off season

Just like Singletary said during our fourth loss,''There are coaches flying high right now that will lose their job in the offseason. My job isn't my concern. It's these kids.''

Well, I don't want to turn this into a Gruden thread, but that's who I'd get.
Another thought regarding Jed York: His team is 1-6. Jerry Jones' Cowboys are about to be 1-5.
I say fire Singletary but give Jed some slack.

Jags are playing ok, I think Del Rio might stay, Bears right now are 4-3 so Lovie is safe right now. And the Raiders will end up with a solid 7-9 or 8-8 maybe. Also assuming the Browns dump Mangini for Gruden too. So as you said 6 or 7 coaching changes. And I'm guessing the best candidates will go to San Diego and Dallas.

Dude I would love Gruden to. But unless we put our bid in early! We might lose out. If I was Jed York I'd come out after the bye week and basically let Sing know that he will not be back next season. Then start recruiting..

The key to winning is what the Chiefs are doing;
1)Haley as H.C.- Ex O.C. for the Cardinals
2) Charlie Weis as O.C. - It's friggin Charlie Wies
3) Romeo Crennell as D.C.- Ex H.C. Ex D.C.

Problem one I don't think you can hire anyone on a staff until the regular season is over. If they are a coach on a playoff team you can't interview them until they are out of the playoffs. Guys like Gruden probably have yearly contracts with ESPN, etc so I don't know if they can get out of them.
It would be nice to get a jump because it's will be tough fighting for HCs with say those 6-7 teams and especially Dallas. You want to get a jump on the other teams but if you hire to early another coach that is better might come along.

Yep can't talk to any coaches on a current NFL team until that teams season is over at the earliest. Coaches like Gruden while in a TV contract can be interviewed and who knows what type of clauses are in the contracts. Coaches on staff like Gruden, Billick, Mooch may have an escape clause if they are offered a HC job.
I'm not sure on the rules when it comes to interviewing college coaches in the middle of their season either.

You wanna get a jump but you also don't wanna rush it. Basically I hope that we are doing our homework right now on all potential candidates. So when the time comes to hire a Coach we know we got the right one.

Look at who is in their front office. I have no idea who the Chiefs coordinaters were in 2009, but Haley or Pioli certainly made room for Crennell and Weis once they were available. If Wade Phillips is fired, we may need to go after him as our DC. Or maybe even bring him in as a consultant to help out Manusky. On the offensive side of the ball, I'm curious to know what Mike Johnson can do without Singletary over him.

I was thinking about this after last night's game. Cowboys will be looking for a new coach. Now if I'm Cowher or Gruden, would I want to be a coach in SF or Dallas?? Kind of a no-brainer.

It is a bad situation here, but considering the talent on the team, you probably can have a coach that can succeed here in spite of the incompetent front office and eventually be fired for winning (a la Mooch).

Assuming Cincinatti makes a chenge....
Why not go w/
Brian Billick
w/ Marvin lewis as the DC and Jim Fassel as the OC

What about John Fox as HC after he's fired. Has a winning record in the regular season and postseason for his career.
He managed to win with Jake Delhomme

you can close the book on gruden. there is no way we are getting him. he's going to cleveland with his buddy holmgren. rumors are he basically already has the job and is assembling his staff. that maybe a false rumor (that its that far along), but the light of gruden in san francisco is slowly dimming away.
