Miami Dolphins running back Ronnie Brown was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving late Friday night near Atlanta, the Miami Herald reported, citing two unnamed sources.
Brown was arrested after an officer pulled him over for changing lanes without signaling, sources said, according to the report. He was released from custody early Saturday morning.
Dolphins coach Tony Sparano, asked about the report on Monday morning at the NFL owners meetings in Orlando, said the Dolphins are still gathering information on what happened. The team takes the situation seriously, Sparano said.
Brown, who has no previous arrest record, was said to be distraught over the arrest, sources said, according to the Herald.
According to the report, it remains possible that the charges could be reduced to a traffic violation.
Brown's agent, Todd France, did not return messages left for him Sunday, the Herald reported.
Brown is recovering from foot surgery to repair a season-ending Lisfranc injury. As a restricted free agent tendered with a first-round pick, he is expected to return to the Dolphins for the 2010 season.
