Just saw a piece on ESPN stating that cowher is headed back, urban meyer may enter pros, shanny could go to Redskins or elsewhere, holmgren already going to Cleveland. Most important, however, is that Ron Wolf may be considering coming out of retirement. You know, the guy who built the GB powerhouse, and knows everyone and his uncle in the nfl. This is a huge break for us, in that right now we have a 26 y/o owner with little of no football knowledge(for an owner, anyway), we have a GM who is famous for producing mediocrity and is in desperate need of more mentoring by...his former mentor, Ron Wolf.

We have a HC who was hopscotched from LB coach to HC , without knowledge of coaching DBs, DLs, OLs, QBs, Rbs, WRs...because he never coached anyone but LBs. This lack of asst DC, and DC training and learning is a huge problem, regardless of what kind of motivational speaker he is. Bigmike just flat out lacks experience as HC, and he badly needs to read the book on OCing, because by admission, he knows no O. Worse, bigmike's inexperience has us with a clueless OL coach, a WR coach who hasn't produced, and there are a couple other coaches that could be improved upon. Big mike as HC has no one he can turn to for advice, experience.

Think of it. In one fell swoop, with one hire, we could fix the owner problem with an expert who could advise jed. We could fix the GM job with a guy who knows football and everyone in it, and is a guy scot could go to for help. HC---maybe Wolf could help there, or maybe he would just say, get another HC and keep bigmike on in advisory/learning capacity. If bigmike remains as coach, he would have someone he could learn from. Right now he has no one, and it must get kinda lonely at times, not having any idea how to fix problems and no background to help him thru it.

I have advocated for a HOFO for several yrs now, and was sick when sean peyton went to saints, pioli got picked up, parcells got taken and loomis in N.O. was locked up by saints. We have a golden opportunity here, to land one guy who potentially could fix the 9ers where they have the biggest hole: experience and success at the top. To pass on a chance like this would be incredibly foolhardy. Let jedi jed REALLY help fix this team by hiring a world class proven HOFO. He should be flying out to see Wolf right now or sending the jet to pick him up. Maybe the guys we have in the positions now can work out. But left on their own they certainly will fail.

With a grown up on board, Wolf just might be able to put this inexperienced crew on the right track. IF he felt that wouldn't work and we needed better at GM and HC, then he would know, firsthand, the guys to talk to. Also he would be a presence, something right now we don't have. No one respects anything about our organization, nor should they, as we have nobody at the top who is responsible as well as knowledgeable. Ron Wolf could fix all that, or else get us the people we need to make it work. To not explore, immediately, the possibility of hiring Ron Wolf, would be to condemn this team to more yrs of drifting, with no real experience at the top. Heck, even jed might be able to learn something about his toy, ie, how to run it. Forget about all the holes on the OL, the passrush, the DBs, the KR and PR...fix it at the top and the rest will follow.

You seem to have the pulse of everthing. What was the last position you held in the NFL, since you seem tohave all the answers?

Hiring Wolf would be the smartest move this team could possibly make. York should do whatever it takes to sign Wolf and then back off!
Great Great post!

It's called a fan forum, dude.

Aus, the only link was on the "guys on the move" on ESPN earlier this a.m., and they mentioned all the guys noted above, including a note on maybe the return of Wolf, and a color picture of him. Other than that, haven't read a printed word anywhere.

To the guys who say Wolf won't come here, that isn't the point. We should be contacting him, courting him, to see if he would take over a franchise that has rotted from the top down. Yeah, we are better than when noln was here, but our main need is some grown up who knows his business, to be our HOFO. If the yorks are serious, they should be out there yesterday trying to see if wolf has any interest in coming here, and secondly, they should bring lots of cash. It would probably take in excess of $5mil/yr, but would pay off in dividends next yr.

If the yorks are not interested in a guy like wolf, then woe be it to us. That would mean that they are satisfied with the "great strides" we have taken. It would also mean they are cheap and don't give a rat's behind about making the 49errors any better than we now are. If they don't make a move on a guy like wolf, then this franchise is a good 7-9 from here on out, with occasional 8-8, maybe even a 9-7 thrown in. But it is no secret, that from top to bottom...our main deficiency is expertise. We have zero in the owner's box, and a C- to D+ GM, with a HC who is only about 10 yrs short on experience, and desperately needs to get several yrs asst DC experience, as well as 3 or 4 yrs DC experience. Then he can become a HC. What the yorks have done is set bigmike up to fail...because he just didn't have the needed experience to run a team. As for scot, he could be a decent scout, but GM he isn't, based on his "production" to date.

You already answered this iin your 1st post. Jed has no clue what he is doing so what would make you think he would even try to contact Wolf and bring in some experience? He's not gonna contact him homie, thus we are fans of a team with bad ownership it's a fact. Just look at how they hired Nolan gave him all that power when the guy wasn't ready at all. and of course we wanted him gone but the guy found out he got fired watching tv not from the front office. They had reports that at owner meetings Jed just blurts out stupid ideas and the other owners see him as a tool. But let's see if it gets turned around calling Wolf would be a great move.
Please forward to Jed..........

Ron Wolf is in his 70's... I doubt he has much left and I doubt he could help long term, if anything I could see him returning to the Packers if/when Thompson gets the boot. I'd like a young front office executive who actually knows what he is doing, why not take a look at some front office people from the Eagles? I hope Scotty is canned sooo soon
