And don't jump for ball when you don't have to.
Vernon Davis has never been a hands catcher. He catches the ball like he's using a basket. That said, it's worked for him and I don't think that it's a big problem.

he's a super-explosive, linear athlete, with the hands of a decent high school player and a body not inclined to non-linear movement, thus the route running.

This. People want him to be Anquan Boldin out there, and that's not happening. Not with his body type and skill set. He can't move his hips and run routes like that, and he doesn't snatch passes out of the air. He's a straight line athlete with a goofy way of catching the football, but it works. Not a problem whatsoever.

God forbid an incompletion is thrown in his direction, all of a sudden the guy can't catch. He had a 62.2% completion rate throwing to him last year, working mostly deep routes. Jimmy Graham was at 59%, and he's a natural hands catcher with an elite QB that throws at a 70% clip.

Davis was also 2nd only to Graham in yards gained per route run.

Comeback route in the 3rd, VD keeps running a vertical and without even looking back when the ball was thrown his way, Easy 1st down.

there are always a few plays like this a game.

Graham has a lot more receptions, we do really need VD to be a possession TE to help with 3rd downs..

I love the homerun type of plays..but rather have a guy you can count on short 3rd plays...Cant have both it seems

I think he helps in that regard. He had 4 catches today. 2 were TDs, and the other 2 were short possession receptions to create 3rd & short situations. Not to mention he's used to stretch the field, the defense has to respect that threat, and it opens up room for the WRs to work underneath. His overall value cannot be understated.

It wasn't a comeback route. It was either going to be a back should throw or a go route. Kap read back shoulder and Vernon kept going vertical. It happens, not a big deal.

This. People picked the oddest day to all of a sudden pick Vernon apart lol. The dude scored 2 TDs, and was due for a huge day statistically if not for the refs incorrectly calling back that big 32 yarder he had.

it is a big deal, he does it a couple of plays a game..run straight and doesn't look back.

there will be times when we will need those catches..but if we keep winning..then it goes unnoticed.

yeah what does it matter that he caught 2 TDs and had a 32 yarder called back on a BS call..lets talk about this one stupid play....

Any evidence to back that up? What's a "couple" times a game? 2 or 3? I can't recall 2 or 3 instances a game where a pass is thrown to him and he's not looking.

Him and Kap weren't on the same page for that play. It happens.
