Looking back now the he is gone I found myself laughing and a little embarassed at myself that I thought the whole Nolan wearing a suit thing was cool.
In hindsight, what the hell was he doing worrying about what he was wearing and going to fittings with Reebok and fighting the league on their policies when the team sucked?? And even worse what were we doing supporting it??
Just thought I would mention it as I was reminded of him by the news of Lloyd going to Denver.

It would be funny if he wears a suit as Denvers DC.

The NFL requires coaches to wear league approved gear on game days. Nolan felt wearing a suit would pay homage to his father and the coaches that came before him.
In many ways, his squabble with the league proved the issues surrounding league licensing. I understand certain uniform codes must be enforced to provide consistency, but requiring coaches to wear pajama-esque attire benefits no one but the licensing company. Fans lose, the NFL loses (respect) and coaches lose.

The suit was actually a good rallying cry for the team and the fans. Had Nolan actually known what he was doing on the sidelines, it would have been a powerful statement. Had Nolan taken the team to the playoffs (lol), the whole stick may have been full of suits.
Instead he made himself out to be a joke. Of the many things I fault Nolan over, the suit is the least of them.

I was on board with the suit until I heard one quote from Nolan I will paraphrase because I'm not going to look it up right now.
But it was something like, Wearing a suit is a way to gain players respect.
After reading that it just totally rubbed me the wrong way. Wouldn't your coaching, teaching, mentality, at least player/coach relationships help build respect. Only a delusional authoritarian would think that dressing snazzy on Sunday would project respect/authority.

The suit was the best idea Nolan had here,he is a terrible HC,but the suit was not a bad thing.More coaches should wear suits,it is classier than that BS Bellicheat wears.

Paying homage to past coaches is never a bad thing. It was a small thing in the era of Nolan, and the only thing I give him merit for.

The suit was more or a tribute than a publicity stunt
