Wow an ending after 1 bad game?

You must have been calling for Shaun's head after the ATL game...

No I didn't mind the shakeup. Sometimes players need to benched. Alex is turnover machine. This is not Alex's first game.

So lets just change QBs every other game..?

Right, great idea.

You have a better idea?

Yes. Like any other team, you have your players learn from their mistakes and try to play better next week. Alex was NEVER known for being a reckless QB that forces throws. Our BIGGEST gripe with him was being overly cautious and not "letting it rip," etc etc. Now he's doing that and he's making mistakes. Its going to happen.

Alex needs to settle down, find the balance and learn to finish out games. He cant force things like he did today. I dont know if he was just trying to look like a bad a## in front of the home crowd or what but he played a little irresponsible. Coach Johnson and Raye need to really break down the film with Smith and just try to turn every negative into a positive. Alex needs to be surgical the way he was in the 2nd half of the Houston game.

Now if he's throwing 2 or 3 picks the next couple games then yes, you may want to bench him. But at that point, the coach is basically saying, "we give up, seaons over, don't try hard." I'd hate to see a guy like Vernon Davis or some of our other players that are developing well just shut it down.

And we need to figure out the best situation for the o-line. I dont care who is throwing the ball...Smith, Hill, Davis, Manning, Brady, or Brees...nothing good will happen when the pocket collapses in less than 1.5 seconds.

I thought the Online did fine today....All of Alex's INTs is when he had time to stare down his receivers and throw the ball......

I'd like to give Shaun another chance (with this type of playcalling from today) before we decide to just give up on our season......instead of just ride or die with Alex.

Hey now, Sings already shown he doesn't care at all about continuity he just wants results. Switching QB's with a winning record after only a 1/3 of the season played is a piss poor rookie move one that has already cost us the season.
The ship has been decommissioned for the year. Move on folks.

You thought the O-line did bad today? Dude most of the time I see where you are coming from and appreciate your posts but the o-line did not do "fine." They barely survived. When they DID do well, Smith generally did well. When they didnt...well...we all know that story.

But yes, i do agree about the INTs. Although I think 2 were clearly his fault and the third was just bad luck. I dont think his throws were bad more than I think they were just poor decisions (i.e. trying to force something and gambling at the wrong time). Alex needs to stop trying to play like Favre and just be smart. Im glad he's trying to gun sling it and all but its obviously not his forte yet.

Hopefully, this is just (bad) experience he can learn from.

Where did I make excuses for Alex?

He's not even gun slinging, most of his passes were late, even without the play by play from gannon you could tell his passes weren't on the mark and comming in late.

Gun slinging in the sense that he's gambling more. Its good and bad. Today it was bad because he was hesitating a little. Normally, Smith would throw the ball away. He's usually pretty careful with the ball. Watching him throw into coverage and force throws (late or not) isnt really like him. Coahces need to check him.

well, I'm sorry, but my exceptions out of our Oline are not that high.....it looked like they were doing fine compared to what I have seen this year.

I think with Alex back there, teams might plays us more man to man...and dare Alex to make an accurate throw.

those other games...it seemed like teams were playing him with a soft zone type of defenses.

Are we talking about the same alex smith? This guy has been turnover prone his entire career. 25 TD's to 36 INT's and 29 Career Fumbles in 34 games played.

Not his fault that there is no run game to speak of or that we fall behind early in games.

Great post...

Hill's strength is managing games and not making mental mistakes; not coming back from 21 points down... Smith showed that he's now capable of putting up points for us; but, he did still turn the ball over.

Until Smith proves he's changed, I'm gonna assume that he is more of a risk at turning the ball over; but, he does give us more of a chance to make big plays with his arm. If he continues to put up more points than make mental mistakes, then he gives us the best chance to win.

1/2 a game is not enough to evaluate how far this kid has come. I'm hoping that he's greatly improved; but, I'm not going to crown his ass until he shows us that he has gotten better...

What's funny is that comments like this were everywhere when talking up Alex Smith and Defunking Shaun Hill yet Alex hasn't proven to be any better than Hill with his amazing 6.2 yards per pass, multiple INTs and amazing speed that got him a 2.5 yard rushing average yet the slow Hill had a 8.8 yards per rush.

Not this again.

I didn't say he should start. I'm just saying that anyone in their right mind who thinks Alex is having a good season is a hypocrite because his play isn't that far off from Hill's play and those same people were frustrated with Hill's mediocrity.
