Dorance Armstrong Jr, EDGE Kansas

Spent a good part yesterday studying him and watching some film....I really, REALLY like this kid as a 2nd rd prospect. He is the LEO we are looking for IMO. Still a bit raw, but I think he can come in and help as a pass rush specialist right away and in 2-3 years I think he can develop into a very good football player. Really like this kid a lot. He is the guy I have my eye on now for the 49ers in rd 2.

Ouch. I will admit, I really liked Eli Harold coming out. Most people did. Walter Football had him going in the first round to Green Bay. I really can't understand why that kid has not become a better football player.
I guess Justis saw it before I did lol

Do you think at worst he can be a good base Leo or SAM?

This is where my mind is at on prospects beyond the first round.
Meaning if you can get a 2 down player then that's still okay. Better then a flat out miss. Way better, and technically valueable on a cheap rookie contract.

True. But Eli Harold was projected as a high to mid 2nd rd pick that year. We got him in the early 3rd and most (including myself) thought he was a steal.

We don't need any more base players. You know this.
There has got to be better players than Armstrong in the draft. He is eager, gets involved, but most of the time seems lost.

Armstrong's position responsibilities were changed this year. Look at his tape from last year. This guy is a beast.

Tank is a FA, along with Douz. Harold and AA are in contract years. We don't have a pure base elephant on the roster. So I could argue we can use one or two on cheap rookie contracts

He's becoming one of my draft "crushes"
He could be another Yannick Ngakoue.

Yannick was a totally different edge rusher in college than Armstrong. Yannick was more like Ogo in that they use their speed, agility and COD to threaten tackles with a two-way go, get them to slow their feet, and finish them with hands.

Armstrong is like Eli Harold where he rushes with no plan, no hands and just tries to out-athlete tackles.

This is Yannick:

Yannick was a dude I loved in that draft class. What was funny all offseason heading up to the draft i never saw him graded higher than a day 3 pick. Was surprised Jags drafted him as early as they did but they obviously saw what I saw.

I'll have to go back and watch Armstrong's games from last year. It's funny how perception changes depending on what tape you put on first. For instance I love Harold Landry but it was because I was looking over his stuff last year when he was healthy and beasting. But looking at this season obviously it's not as impressive due to injury.

You must've posted this right as I was posting. I'm going back to look at Armstrong's tape and i'm definitely not getting the same vibe I got with Yannick but thought maybe I wasn't watching the right games.
