Sam Jones just announced he is entering the draft. Huge loss for ASU. I'll post my detailed thoughts later.
But short version: perfect for KS offense

Was just about to make a thread about him and then noticed this one. I absolutely agree that he is a perfect fit for the offense. He's not going to work in a gap blocking scheme but is the sort of lineman that Mike Shanahan made a habit out of acquiring. I have no trouble seeing him as a guy that would have fit in well with the Denver Broncos of the mid to late 90s. I think as a late pick he's someone that could come in and develop as a reserve in this offense, eventually working his way into the starting lineup.
He's such an obvious fit that I'm positive he's well up there on the 49ers radar already and someone I wouldn't be shocked to see the team draft with one of their later picks. Fits well in the outside zone blocking as he has no trouble getting to the second level, also excelled as a pass blocker, not giving up a single QB hit all season. He's a great character guy too, one of the team captains, strong leadership ability, would fit well right in with Staley and Co.
Dude kind of looks like an oversized Jason Momoa too.

Yeah grab him in the 5th and 2-3 years later he can be a stud in Kyle's scheme
He really should have stayed another year, but coaching change.
Excels at getting in space and redirecting for a rushing lane. He is bad when it's a straight ahead strength match, he is not a strong guy.
I don't remember seeing pass protection problems from him. His big knock will be size/strength

Offensive lineman Sam Jones is rated as ASU's top draft prospect, rated as the sixth-best guard prospect by ESPN's Mel Kiper. Jones could have returned for his senior season but left early for a shot of the NFL, as did linebacker Christian Sam and defensive lineman JoJo Wicker.
"I graduated and that was the main thing for me," in leaving early, Jones said. "I had a really good year and my measurables are going to be the same compared to if I stayed another year. I feel I'm ready to make the jump."
Jones, Sam and running backs Demario Richard and Kalen Ballage participated in the combine, all with mixed results.
"I don't think my times were as good as the could have been," Jones said. "I think that's kind of how the combine works. You get a little bit sleep deprived and you're stressed out. But I performed well in the bench and all the interviews, too.
"We're going to be in pads again eventually. All the track starts and cone drills are over. Now it's back to football, which is what I'm looking forward to. But it's been a really good experience so far."

Combine update. Sam Jones aka Khal Drogo ASU (transfer Dothraki State) Pros: great numbers in the bloodriding 3 cone, showed great hand speed on throat rips in 1 on 1 battle drills

Cons: reckless, off-field issues (slavery, assault, murder) availability? @netw3rk @MalloryRubin pic.twitter.com/YCckcsI80s

Bottom Line Lean, athletic guard who has the quickness to make reach blocks and backside cut-offs on the second level, but is unable to consistently handle the man in front of him. Jones will have to play in a zone-scheme rushing attack to try and mitigate his strength deficiencies, but his issues carrying weight on his frame could haunt him on the next level.

Draft Prospect Outlook:
At his best climbing to the second level to block linebackers. Good not great strength, mobility, effectiveness against counter moves. Adequate skill-set across the board. Mid-round pick. Right guard in NFL.
As a fourth-year junior in 2017, Jones was named team captain by a vote of players, a rare honor for a non-senior. Jones was considered a vocal leader who helped run ASU's offseason workouts and summer conditioning. He was the player who addressed the team on their final day before the start of preseason camp, and continued as a mainstay starter at left guard, where he graded out as ASU's second-best offensive lineman (and No. 4 guard in the Pac-12) by Pro Football Focus.

The interesting name from ASU to keep an eye on, and a player that often gets lost in the shuffle, is offensive guard Sam Jones.
The redshirt junior watched his game take off last season after being a part-time starter the prior two years. Jones is a smart, athletic guard who does a great job using angles as well as body positioning to take defenders from the action. He's nimble on his feet, effective blocking on the second level and comes with a nice degree of growth potential.

Sam Jones — Guard — Arizona State — 6'4″/290
Jones didn't give up a sack or a quarterback hit last season. Beyond that, Jones is a great run blocker that possesses excellent footwork. He's quick, but needs to add some strength to be a starter in the NFL. He's an ideal fit for a zone blocking scheme.

No idea what the 49ers draft board will look like when its fully completed but I imagine that Jones will be up there fairly high relative to many other teams.
