That's still a good trade.

I don't think anyone really expected the Saints to be this good, so I don't blame them too much. Oh well.
I think we will be trading down with our 1st pick next year, so hopefully we'll have a lot more ammo.

The fact that my fav running back in the draft was taken by the saints with the pick the niners traded hurt, and the fact that Kamara looks to be a very good all around back sucks even more..but I'll admit he's a perfect fit for the saints..

The main thing is they were willing to make the move. I guarantee you if they liked Kamara or Lawson as much as the webzone they would have pulled the trigger. It is still good value, just won't be the amazing value it would have been if the Saints didn't fix their D

Very true, I expect it to be traded again to move up and get their guy anyway..

How can you say this was a bad trade yet? We don't know who we'll pick next year...

Meh I'm fine with it...getting that 2nd rd pick helped make the trade for jimmy G a lot easier to be made imo. It's all speculation, but that in turn helps us move down in the first (no need for qb) which could land us much more than whatever we could have gotten in 2017 in the 3rd rd.
There's also a lot of football left...they only team NO has beat worth a damn is Carolina.

True this still could go very well for us this offseason. Obviously nothing more important than us getting the first or 2nd pick with 2 QBs doing very well this offseason and trading back and netting a first next year. That should be our ultimate goal. Along with saints magically blow up and the pick goes from maybe 60 to 50 at best, Similar to that year Cardinals didn't make playoffs going 10-6 which is unlikely but we'll see.

Great way to look at it, trading for Jimmy G and assuming he's the answer has really opened up more possibilities for the good this offseason..

We can look at every draft and say we should've done this or that. Can't say it was a bad idea till we use the pick in 2018. Then we have to wait to see what the player does- so we'll know if it was a bad move by the end of 2018. Maybe not till 2019. (Some players take a year or so to make an impact).
But ya, it would've been nice to draft Kupp or Kamara. I actually wanted Kamara with that pick. Made me kinda angry that the Saints used our pick to get him. LOL
Still, I'm going to wait and see what we do with their second rounder. Hopefully we can get a good WR or gaurd. Perhaps move up a few spots of we have to. I'm really looking forward to this next draft/free agency.
No this really was a bad idea. Even shanny thought so.
Though people wanting Lawson, hunt or anyone else. Shanny already said it woulda been Terrell basham. Which I would have been fine with

When did shanny Said it was a bad idea to trade that pick? I don't remember him saying that...I do remember him being interested in basham (who if he really wanted could have taken over Witherspoon). For what it's worth basham has done a bunch of nothing in Indy.

Yup, people gotta look at the bigger picture...who knows if we make the move for jimmy if we don't have two 2nds. The fact that we have a couple options after that move at qb leaves the real possibility of trading for a qb needy team and recoup a 2nd and more.
We will see, but moving down this past draft ended up helping us land solly/Foster/jimmy G...not too shabby

He didn't say it was a bad idea, but he did say he had some players that he wanted. Shanahan eventually agreed that it made sense in the long term but a coach wants to open his presents early (words to that effect)
