At first I thought we got the Saints third round pick later in the draft (so it was all that to trade up) and was ecstatic, then I realized that wasn't the case and was upset. Then I realized we are in the third round right now (I thought we were still in the second for some reason so I was pissed lol).
Basically, whether or not this is a good trade depends on if the Saints suck next year or not. We did get this pick from the Bears trade, though. So this looks pretty good for that reason.

They gain position from 3rd round to 2nd even if they get into the NFC championship, even at that is not a push unless the talent is so bad, most like the saints will be be a middle of the pack team and that is not a push.

I really like the trade. Puts us in a position to trade up into the first rd next year. So two 2nd round picks and two 3rd rd picks next year? Not a bad position to be in. Especially if we land Cousins.
I really don't think the saints will be that much better. Not a playoff team that is. Not with that Defense.
Good trade. Yes there was value there especially with back to back picks. But we have more picks coming up and still free agents. And let's not forget our great night last night. Love the first 3 picks and the trades.
We have no idea who they have targeted and have planned for next year. You always want to be keeping an eye on the future and this did not cost us limo

I wanted him too but I'm also thinking about getting the best QB in the 2018 draft.
Also, of we land Cousins we can go wild drafting offensive skill positions in 2018.
Hell the Witherspoon pic was crap anyway we should've took Kamara ,if you're going to trade the 67 pic

but what if the draft isnt as deep next year? We KNOW we could have gotten a player who can compete for a starting job with this pick. We don't know that next year.
With that said i'll wait to answer after pick 229

Saints could easily make the playoffs with that offense. They have had a nice draft as well. In another years draft I would like it but not in one this deep. So many good players left still and so many holes. If we could have at least got a 5th I would be happy.

He is trouble waiting to happen. Lasted to the third because of concerns. Right now we can't take that chance.

What sort of trouble?

Great trade because if we finish with more than 5 wins we will more than likely be picking outside the top 5 next year which means we will need draft capital to move up and take a franchise QB. Think about it if Shanny/Lynch like one of the QBs in next year's draft more than Jimmy G or Cousins this trade may help facilitate a trade into a position of power in next year's draft. Solid move by Lynch.

Ask me next year.
My answer until then: Bad Deal. The amount of talent sitting there at 67 was rediculous.

B.
Get the logic, but so many pressing needs dictate they should have taken someone. Maybe we see them trade up back into the 3rd.

How great the value is predicated on two things, how the talent nexy year and where the saints end up.
Many fans live vicariously for the draft and don't have the patience to wait. They want it now-haha, even if Bill Walsh repeated what he did when he first got here, I am afraid he would have been booed out of San Francisco by the webzoners after two years.

Originally posted by WildBill:Right, but we traded the 3rd pick of the 3rd round -- that's really high up. If the Saints (somehow) are really good, we might only move up like 6-7 spots. That's not a huge gain. There's value in knowing what players are on the board when you pick. The 49ers knew what players they had available, they have no idea what players will be there next year.

Now, on the other hand, if the Saints do poorly next year, we could move up like 20+ spots. It's just really hard to judge the trade right now.
