Why do so many have a hard time spelling his name.
Because he's not worth the #2 pick, his name might as well be gthypkzy.

I'm guessing they wished they should have drafted rivers and traded with NY or ftiz over a safety. Name me on safety that's a game changer? Someone that didn't have elite talent around them? Everyone keeps saying hooker is Reed/Thomas/Taylor but he's got one yr of real experience, is a poor tackler, is already injuried, and sounds like he lacks a real passion for the game...so your telling me if a more athletic justin smith is staring you in the face you say nah? f**k that

I rather like to think of it like when it is said and done, if you had a redraft, how would teams draft then knowing what they know now. If the player is going to be an impact player or multi pro bowler, HOF- does it matter? Give me Thomas, Reed or Lott at number 2. With that said, he fits our scheme, but at the same time, he needs to clean up his angles and tackling. Atlanta did not have that in the SB, if they did, the Pats might not have had a chance.
THIS
I'm so tired of hearing that this position or another was never drafted at number 2 in the draft, blah, blah, blah. You ppl also said that Lynch was a bad hire because no GM without the right experience has ever been hired by an NFL team. We can't live being so afraid of breaking conventional norms.
Malik Hooker...49ers new FS....2017 NFL DRAFT!!!
NO safety end of the day just isn't as important as QB,LT,pass rush, WR, CB...it's just not, you can swing it around to try and fit whatever but it's the truth. People bring up Earl Thomas and how he's the heart of the D, but when Bennett was out for 5 weeks that D allowed 3 20+ games and lost twice.
Why can't Ward move to his natural position? Lynch already said that's the plan so why draft a FS? We just don't have the talent elsewhere to be burning a pick on safety. Trade down sure that changes a lot of things BUT if we don't we need to go with the DE in Thomas.

No, I'm saying that if the 49ers don't see Solomon t. As a mini Justin smith, they shouldn't take him anyway over hooker just because hooker is a safety. If hooker is seen as a #2 talent by the team, they shouldn't take him off their board because of his position; it should actually boost his value considering a cover 3 is dependant completely on the free safeties skill set, and how often do we legitimately talk about a safety being a #2 talent.
But if the team sees a Justin smith in this draft, take him.
I'd personally rather have an earl Thomas and DeForest Buckner than an Eric Reid and Justin smith. But would be happy with either combo.

But I also believe you should draft based on the players available.
There are a slew of FS in this draft. So why negate the depth of the position of this draft by taking the 1st one off the board. To me it makes no sense to do it.
Same thing with pass rusher (except Garrett).
If we stay at #2. Rueben Foster or #1 WR. (or QB if they one which I hope they don't.)
Only 3 #1 WRS available IMO. (Wasn't big on Davis but now I'm warNing up to the idea)
only 2 1/2 mike LBS available IMO. I like jarrad Davis. Not as high on McMillan like most are....
Which the 3 top WRS likely gone in top 20.
Top 2 Mike's gone in top 25ish with the 3rd by 50.
Good FS's that first will be there in the 3rd/4th rounds.

Foster...dude couldn't even finish the combine because of being a dummy.
Packers beat writer Bob McGinn spoke with multiple scouts who expressed concern about Alabama LB Reuben Foster's background.
"He may slide because of background. He's got all kinds of stuff," one scout told McGinn. Another evaluator told the writer Foster "had some issues" in his past. Those issues were never brought to the public, so it is difficult for us to consider them. Instead, all we get is a generic statement from NFL teams criticizing a player whose coach even said has never been a problem. Foster was sent home from the NFL Combine for a heated argument, but teams apparently are not worried about that particular situation. Foster and Haason Reddick project as the top two inside linebackers.
He's constantly guessing gaps and just throwing himself at people. He's had a dominate DL that often left him untouched.
He's got a shoulder injury and came in under 230lbs. I'm telling ya those Bama players get smashed in college they get used up and thrown away.
Originally posted by NYniner85:I don't think he's off their board at all, but position and value go hand in hand....there's a reason that we've had TWO safeties drafted in the top 5 since 1992.
Reid isn't gonna be playing FS that's Ward who in case ya didn't know was a Jim Thorpe finalist at safety in college. All this Hooker is Reed stuff is a bit silly. Reed had 21 INTs in college Hooker had 7...Reed was a 4 yr starter and Hooker was a 1 yr starter. Even Thomas was a starter for 2 yrs OH and he was drafted at 14.
Like I said show me a dominate safety that doesn't have elite talent around him? Justin Smith didn't have a elite FS in SF yet still dominated.
pass rusher/run stopper >>>>> safety
also go look at the draft there's so fine DBs but I don't see many DE that's were tops in the nation in stopping the run and 6th overall in pass rush.

So..... why do you want Thomas over Jonathan Allen if Allen help make Foster look so good?
Is there a top Stanford LB in this draft that Thomas make look Good?

And you didn't even respond to krizay's post, which was really good, discussing draft strategies. and how there are some very "shallow" positions in this draft, and that, with the right strategy, we can get the best value out of this draft possible. It's definitely a point worth reading, and acknowledging, even if you don't agree with it. But all you did was just go down the list, bashed some prospect not named Thomas.

I mean would you not agree a lot of Bama players are often injured quite a bit?
Peter Kalambayi had a pretty solid yr for them at Stanford.

Absolutely not Reuben Foster. I'd prefer to wait till the 2nd and take Jarrad Davis, or 3rd and take Raekwon McMillan. Still tooting the Mike Williams horn
