He's been a topic of conversation for a couple years, everyone wonders about production but the physical skills are there.
NFL.com's Lance Zierlein spoke with one NFC GM who believes Alabama senior TE O.J. Howard has the talent level to be an All-Pro.
"The decision maker places blame on Lane Kiffin for Howard not getting more involved in the offense during his time with the Crimson Tide. The GM does not question Howard's talent, but said "I just need to know if he loves football." Howard was a focal point in last year's National Championship, catching five passes for 208 yards and two touchdowns. Prior to that game, Howard had just 33 catches for 394 yards and no touchdowns on the season. You can guarantee Clemson will be focusing on Howard in this year's game."

The MMQB's Albert Breer spoke with one AFC area scout who compared Alabama senior TE O.J. Howard's ability to Jimmy Graham's.
Body size wise, Howard is about an inch shorter than Graham and possibly ten pounds lighter. Graham was an absolute freak of an athlete, so it is interesting to see Howard be compared to that. We've only seen him featured in one game and he displayed outstanding run after catch skills versus Clemson last season. Howard has a chance to be a first round pick.

I think he will be a better pro

I think so too (better pro than college player). In college its all about the COACH, and a guys production can be affected by; scheme, coaches attitude towards a player, players personal/college life, worried about his family at home struggling, etc.). In the pro's its all about the PLAYERS, and with none of the past worries and coaches/GM jobs on the line and $$$$$$ spent, a guy gets a chance to blossom.

He could have the highest ceiling of any TE in this draft. In all probability he will be out of our range, there are more important issues for the 49ers in this draft.

He's good...we really don't know how good due to 'Bama's conservative offense this season. The guy I like even more is Jordan Leggett from Clemson. 6-5, @ 255, extremely athletic and very good speed. He's been a great weapon for Watson.

he could be an option if we get McDaniels.... he loves two TE sets... Groin and Hernandez/ Gronk an Bennett.. his ceiling is way higher then Jordan Leggit

we CAN NOT AFFORD to use a HIGH pick on another TE..
our TEs for now are a bunch of BLUE COLLAR guys and we should be happy w/them..

Of course they can afford to. TE is becoming a bigger & bigger part of offenses now that teams are moving away from fullbacks. You need a couple good TEs these days.
