Mayfield's an excellent college QB...if he gets drafted I'd say he's b/u material, not a starter. He could prove me wrong, but I've seen so many who put up huge numbers in college but never really make it in the NFL.

You're probably right. But there's a lot to like about the guy. Especially if Rosen isn't an option, and we're looking at 5 years of mediocrity as an alternative (Kirk Cousins).
Solid college QB, but not worth it to spend a 1st thru 5th round pick on. I just don't see his game transitioning to the NFL, at best I think he's Colt McCoy.
Colt Mccoy????? That's harsh.
Mayfield is a much, MUCH better prospect than Beathard IMO.
Are you actually looking at how Mayfields game would translate to the next level or are you looking at the Youtube highlight plays he makes?
Arm strength - Beathard
Mechanics and footwork - Beathard
Pocket Awareness - Beathard
Athleticism - Mayfield
Pro Ready - Beathard
I list those categories because of those are the most looked at. Hard to list numbers because both run two completely different offenses.
Beathard is pro ready? Watch Mayfield against Ohio State, way better pocket awareness than CJ. Baker also does a better job at hitting tight windows. Beathard was having problems hitting his first read in the last 2 preseason games. One thing Baker does that CJ absolutely doesn't do is give his WR a shot in one on one coverage. Eli did it on their Super Bowl runs and Aaron Rodgers is famous for that. Biggest thing CJ has over Baker is one full season in the system and way more time playing under center.
One thing I wished Baker did better is throw with anticipation meaning he can't see the coverage a second ahead. He'll throw screens blind because it's in the playbook but he doesn't throw his receivers into open gaps. Beathard kinda does this but not too much in the preseason.

Yes Beathard is/was more Pro Ready coming outta college, how can you deny that? Show me where Mayfield going through his progressions while making 3, 5 and 7 step drops? Shoot show me where he take snaps under center period!!
And where do you get this "beathard was having problems hitting his first read" talk, stop making crap up!!! And what's this talk of "Not give his receivers a shot in one on one coverage". lol - see video below.
Just by that game alone it shows Beathard's pocket presence and footwork is light years ahead of Mayfield's happy feet in the pocket. Again stop making crap up that Baker does a better job of hitting tight windows, his first two touchdowns the receivers were WIDE OPEN!!!
I stick by my comparison, nuff said.

Kolohe. I'm not okay with this. I'm not okay agreeing with you on another QB. Would be incredibly dumb to bet the franchise on Mayfield. Happy to take a flyer in the mid rounds on him (or somebody else). But if he requires a 1st round investment? Pass.

Haha!!!
Seriously though, Mayfield has some of the most shaky pocket presence I've ever seen, it's just as bad as Jeff Garcia in '99 if not worst. I see Manziel all over again and even Manziel didn't have this much happy feet.

You mean where Beathard was having problems hitting his first read on stretch rollouts in weeks 3 and 4 of the preseason? But no, I'm making it up.

Hitting his first read, lol.
A lot of QB's in the Preseason "Keyword: Preseason" make errors like hitting their first read, unable to go through progressions, over throw and under throw receivers etc etc....That's what preseason is for and since you bring up preseason, funny how "rookie" - Beathard beat out a 4 year veteran for the #2 job. I will guarantee you with Mayfields, lack of pocket presence, mechanics, footwork, inexperience taking snaps from under center, inexperience in a Pro Style offense that he wouldn't be able to beat out an NFL veteran for the #2 job in his rookie year.

lol I guess we're picking and choosing when we want to apply preseason huh? So we're gonna brag about Week 1 but ignore that he got worse in Weeks 3 and 4? We're giving the guy props for beating out Matt Barkley who also came out of a "pro ready" USC system but is nowhere near franchise QB material. Meh, I'm on the Rosen train for now anyways.

Your loosing the point to your argument, pretty much seems like your getting lost in this debate.
QB's make mistakes in Preseason, yes they miss on passes, reads and even have miscommunication on plays....but that's what Preseason is, hard to put a QB at fault when he plays for a series or two, how do you even compare that to a full game.
BUT, what does that even have to do with being Pro Ready? See - Deshaun Watson and how he's struggling taking snaps from center, bad footwork, hard time making pre-snap reads, the best he does out there is scramble for TD's. That game will only get you so far in the NFL, you may catch the NFL off guard for two years, but what about the longevity in your game?
Now tell me how again Baker Mayfield is more Pro Ready than CJ Beathard was coming outta college?

Series or 2? CJ plays for the whole half of game 1 but you put his highlights as if you're saying look at this. I bring up him playing a half in weeks 3 and 4 and you're like, well it's just preseason and he didn't play the whole game. I guess you're used to winning debates where you get to change the scenario that fits you.
BTW, Sam Bradford came from a hurry up spread system and I'd still take him over CJ and his "Pro-ready" mess. Same goes for Alex Smith.

AGAIN MISSING THE POINT!!!
Forget the whole Preseason hoopla...
1. Does Baker Mayfield have experience taking snaps from under center and if he does, how much experience?
2. Does Baker Mayfield, come from a pro style offense and does he have ANY experience in it?
3. Pocket awareness while going through progressions, does Mayfield even do that?
4. Has Mayfield ever made a pass to a receiver while making a 3, 5 or 7 step drop? This one probably could fall underneath #1, but I hope you get the point!!
Seriously you're dwelling so far into the Preseason mess when, the questions I asked were pretty much simple Yes or No. And to answer my questions, Beathard does all of the above, how could you argue otherwise!!
Now who is more Pro Ready?
And btw, who's the one that changed the scenario, when you've pretty much steered clear away from the questions I asked another poster!!!

OK then
CJ only completed 7 passes and threw 3 picks to no TDs in his last college game. After 4 years of playing in that system that's what he had to offer.
If you mean pro ready because he's put his hand in his center's crack more, then yes CJ is more Pro Ready. If going through progressions and actually moving the chains makes you pro ready, I'm going Mayfield.
If we pick up Baker, the only thing CJ has over him is 1 year of Shanny schooling him.
