I think they should change up some of the combine tests. First of all, the 40 yard dash should be run in full pads and helmet, from a standing position. Otherwise you're testing how good someone is at track, rather than their football speed. Also instead of the bench press, why not test a players dead lift? If they are going to test a football player with any one lift, I think it should be the dead lift. Lower body and core strength is more important in football.

But rather than lifting weight, they could create some functional tests, like see how fast they can push a weighted sled, or how much force they can hit the sled with...like what they do on sports science.


And instead of doing a 20 yard shuttle and 60 yard shuttle, just do one shuttle run, and have a beep endurance test.

These combine tests seem like unimaginative crap some old bald guys came up with in the 50s.
