I have three draft day trades:
First is Kaep going to Denver. No way Kaep wants to be here, no way Baalke let's him play with anyone else for anything less than a 2nd, and no way Denver goes into the season with Sanchez as their starting qb. It's a great deal for everyone, something that rarely happens.
2nd is a trade up back into the 1st
3rd is a late round pick for De-Anthony Thomas
Round 1 (#7 Overall)
ILB Myles Jack-The most versatile player in this draft, J.Ramsey is close, but this kid played every position on defense and played running back on offense. You just don't see players going both ways anymore. He's a rare all-around player that doesn't come around very often. His game is different from Willis's game but they both seem to have the same effect on the game itself. I think with Baalke and Chip knowing their D will be on the field the whole game (regardless of the offense scoring or not) they elect for another playmaker on D, another playmaker next to Bowman, another 'core player' on D to build around.
2013:Reid
2014:Ward
2015:Armstead
2016:Jack
There's a theme here to Baalke on draft day after 2012, all defense in the first. I can see why, as great defensive teams have determined our division winner for years now (and AJ Jenkins sucked). I believe Jack is perfect for Kelly's defense. He's used to playing more snaps than anybody and he's used to making plays on most of those snaps. Jack and Bowman would be too much speed for anything in, up, or around the middle.
Round 1 (#24 Overall) Trade #37, #68 and 3rd in 2017
OLB- Leonard Floyd- A pass rush specialist, even if the stats don't always seem to show it. He has a nose for the ball when he's in range of a sack. Very Robert Mathis like, quick as hell, long arms, gets more aggressive on passing downs, and more than anything he attacks the ball. Which is what we need more of, turnovers. He could even go as high as #7. Very under the radar and will have more production in the pros than compared to college. Another playmaker for the defense. We now have Lynch, Jack, Bowman, and Floyd as our linebackers. With Harold, Brooks, Hodges, Whilhote, and others backing them up.
Round 2 (#63 overall from Denver)-
OG Joshua Garnett- As soon as Kaep is traded for pick #63, pencil in Garnett as the pick. The 49ers may have tipped their hand as it was reported they were all over him at Stanford's Pro Day. Would be the big nasty bully we've been missing in the interior since Boone decided to change his play in 2014. Will pair greatly with A.Davis if he comes back, to form a great run blocking right side. I could see this being Chip's favorite pick of the draft. We have to address the o-line with one of our first 3 picks. Garnett will be a stud at RG for a long long time. He is great at pulling and clearing running lanes. Obviously he is smart enough to learn Kelly's system quickly.
Round 4 (#105 overall)-
NT- DJ Reader- Big, Powerful Run-stopper, will consistently collapse the middle of the pocket. Just too big and strong to hold back. With Ian Williams now out again and missing a lot of games due to injury. This becomes a huge need. Dorsey also has had to come back from injury. Reader is what we need to stay strong up front and I could see him starting and having a great year rotating in and out once all of those guys are healthy. Lets keep or D-Line a strength.
Round 4 (#133 overall)
-QB Cardale Jones- Yes that's right!! I'm not going to say he's our savior or anything like that but we still need to take a qb sometime in this draft. He is young, big, athletic, undefeated in his starts in a major conference, has big game experience, and played great against some great college defenses. He has the ingredients to work with in Chip Kelly's offense. Even if he's not the starter, we still need a back up qb. I always felt better if the backup qb was mobile. I think this would be a C.Kelly pick.
Round 5 (#142 overall)
RT/G Brandon Shell- Huge OT who started every game since his freshman season. A true right tackle who lacks the athleticism to play on the left side. Gives our line added depth and size at both RT and RG. Which are still needs after considering last years lack of quality players and depth along the oline. Need to make this group the strength of the team again. Great Uncle is Art Shell for what it's worth and Brandon has been dubbed the 'Anti-Clowney' due to his work ethic both on and off the field. (A holdover from my fist mock. Don't fix what ain't broken, this pick is more about A.Davis not applying to unretire with the league prior to the draft. I'd say at the very least Baalke doesn't trust a thing this guy says.)
Round 5 (#145 overall)
WR Keyarris Garrett- While this draft does not have top Wideouts. This draft does have a lot of very talented and intriguing receivers.in rounds 3-5. Garrett is one of them. Always seemed to show up in every game. Nice route runner and is used to playing in an uptempo offense. He could be a very solid 3rd,4th, or 5th option for us. High points the ball and he's fairly confident going through the middle attack the ball.
Round 5 (#174 overall)
CB T.J. Green- Clemson used him as a safety but I see the 49ers using his long frame and lighting quick speed at the corner position. Just like pass rusher, you could never have too many corners. We need more speed no matter the position. Green has speed, a lot of speed, and also tremendous special teams value. Still new to the defense as he transferred over from wide out his junior year. A very raw prospect. Don't expect much year one, but he adds value right away as a back up due to his speed.
Round 6 (#178 overall)
Edge Rusher Dadi Nicolas- A true pass rusher and nothing more. He could provide instant special teams value though. He may not look good when he does it, but he always seems to get it done. Had a total of 17.5 sacks in 16 starts for VT. We need more pass rushers, I would've loved to add more pass rushers earlier, but we had to address our atrocious offense first. Also, Baalke did us no favors by not addressing any needs in FA, unfortunately, as important as pass rushers are, something will have to wait until next year to be addressed. As that should help out the defense more than anything else. He could instantly push Lemonade out the door. Provides needed depth as I expect constant rotation for the olb due to the amount of defense plays our team should expect to play week in and week out. (Holdover from first mock. We will need more and more pass rusher as the defense will be on the field a-lot. Would be best to have a deep rotation along the d-line).
Round 6 (#207 overall)- Trade to Kansas City
RB/WR De'Anthony Thomas- Reunited and it feels so good. Chip will find a way to have the Black Mamba on his roster before the preseason rolls around. Always great to have a utility weapon in Chip Kelly's offense. RB,WR,KR. Can score from anywhere on the field. Even if he's just a kick returner for us, it's worth the trade.
Round 6 (#211 overall)
WR De'Runnya Wilson-I know he was probably the slowest player at the combine, and he plays wide receiver, which is never a good combination. He does however offer superior size a the position. He has a huge catch radius, and would offer our qb a massive target compared to all other wideouts on our roster. I would love to seem him play strictly within the 30 yard line for our offense next year, as he is a true red-zone threat. We haven't had this type of size at the position since TO. He would be fun to watch in the preseason going to the year and see if maybe we got a steal here.
Round 6 (213 overall)
QB Vernon Adams- Complete qb who may always be a qb backup or journeyman but that's okay. He will helps the other qbs transition to Chip's offense and is huge security blanket for our team with Gabbert and Goff splitting reps during year one.We could do much worse than Adams as our 3rd qb. (Holdover form first mock, no way Chip passes on him here. Chip carries at least 3 qbs at all times)
