I'm completely fine if the team is planning on tanking next year for a high draft pick and rolling over $50 million in cap space for next offseason. There will be a lot of teams rolling over cap room and the salary cap will probably go up again, so we're not likely to find better deals next year, but we can end up with a better draft pick by tanking next year and a ton of cap space. I'd be fine with a 4-12 season (with a much better +/- showing team improvement) if we roll over $50 million in cap space. 2 consecutive years of high draft picks and tons of cash is a decent way to rebuild.

We go through this every year...there's a segment of the Niner fan base that gets impatient, thinking Baalke should sign this or that FA. When he doesn't they start hating...if they've followed the team for any length of time, they should know Baalke refuses to overpay FA's...there are other teams, like the Packers and Broncos who feel the same way. FA has just started...there are still a number of good players out there. When all's said and done, Baalke will acquire a number of 'em. Fans b***hed at the signing of QB Thad Lewis...for a cheap 1-yr contract. He knows Kelly's system...why wouldn't Baalke sign him? They're griping about the Cards' OL Ted Larsen...who's started for the Cards the last 2 seasons. Dude can play C and OG...what's the problem? He may not be a high-profile FA, but the dude can play, and at a pretty high level, given how well 'Zona's played the past couple of seasons. He wouldn't have started for them if he couldn't play. Obviously, the big fish today was Ian Williams...and that re-signing was the right thing to do. If you want to follow a team that spends like a drunken sailor, then the Niners aren't going to be your cup of tea. Go follow the NY Giants...they spent $200M on 4 defensive players today. Good luck managing their cap.

Yes those guys did come from Free Agency, but not at the price we are seeing some of these guys today are getting for average production.

Building from the draft so much more important than just blowing money like some crazy fans on here seem to want the Niners to do....just because.

Key draft players during those few good years:
Vernon Davis, Iupati, Boone, Davis, Staley, Goldson, Willis, Bowman, Aldon, Kap, Alex Smith, Gore, Miller, Delanie Walker, Reid, Andy Lee, Brown, Culliver, McDonald, Sopoaga.

Key is, and always has been, to build through the draft and don't overspend in free agency. Especially with a rebuilding team like we are right now.

Yep this is hilarious....EVERY single year smh. It's like people want us to sign players just for the sake of signing them. And then when all of our money is gone and we can't even retain our young in house talent they will point the finger right back at TB. It's almost as if our cap money is going to expire for eternity if it is not used to overpay for middling talent on the double. Do these fans remember "Salary Cap Hell?" Do some of these fans remember the mid to late 90's when we had no wiggle room due to years of trying to win as many SB's as possible and trying to catch Dallas? I Know Baalke has done some questionable things the past couple years (mostly due to his ego), but when it comes to NOT overpaying for bust potential free agents i applaud the man. Say what you will...but at the very least Baalke has proven he can pluck good Defensive talent from the draft and I look forward to this upcoming April much more than paying Malik Jackson 6 years and 90 mil just so some desperate fans can sleep better at night...

Yea our Harbs teams were built on years of first round picks so we didn't need to splash in FA. But this roster isnt. We have zero known talent outside of Bowman. Staley. Williams. Lynch. Secondary could be good but unproven. O-line is terrible. A group of undersized recievers. Injury prone starting RB and a stable of mediocrity behind him. Don't even wanna talk about the QB situation. We needed young talent in FA at least one of the top FA guys would have made a big difference. Holding out hope we make some moves and have a good draft. Other than that prepare yourself for another sub .500 season
