A good read, thanks!
I don't think there is any chance Kap is on the roster if we take a QB with the first pick. Kap's maximal trade value will be before the draft.
FA looks good, though I think we (as fans) tend to overestimate how productive free agents or trade targets have been with their prior teams. The Baltimore guard being a prime example.
An example would be Vernon Davis. Denver fans were ecstatic -- but, of course, we all knew better.
I don't see a trade up from the 2nd round being that likely simply because we have so many holes to fill. But crazier things have happened. However, I think if we trade Kap for a 2nd or 3rd (likely market value given his exceptionally affordable contract) -- we would very likely use it to move into the late 1st.
Good stuff. Well articulated. Thank you!

It's a draft too?
I like the first 4 picks. I like FAs. I just don't think we will draft for then 8 guys. My opinion of course.

The main critique I have with your off-season plan is other than re-sign Ian Williams, you did virtually nothing to upgrade the DL. The Broncos just showed us how a stout and deep DL can win championships. Our pass rush was anemic last season, largely because the front 3 wasn't very good, overall. So, adding pass rushers only works when you've upgraded your DL to provide a consistent push and have quality b/u's to develop an effective rotation. Both the LB corps and secondary benefit from a strong front 3...it really sets the tone for the entire defense. Among the DL Baalke should add include DE Malik Jackson, Olivier Vernon, or Adrian Claiborn. He should draft Andrew Billings or Vernon Butler to b/u Williams and a DE like Buckner, Ogbah, or Nkemdiche Butler. All are very strong, relentless dudes who can do some damage once they learn the ropes. This is the offseason to rebuilt the DL...the talent's out there, Baalke needs to go get it.

I don't disagree that you need a strong D-line to occupy blockers and allow those pass rushers (OLB's) to get up the field and wreak havoc. Meanwhile, if we re-sign Williams and see what Armstead can do in his sophomore season... we are getting closer. However, let's not spend all of our draft picks on d-lineman. Why? There are so many holes to fill on this roster and it's not just d-lineman. We need OLB's, ILB's, a defensive back, o-lineman, wr's, a qb of the future, and maybe even a TE. What we do in the draft will ultimately hinge on how well we do in free agency. Hopefully we're able to attract a guy like Malik Jackson. It won't be cheap. I think a dark horse guy out there that not alot of people are talking about is Jaye Howard from the Chiefs. Young, brings some some good pass rush, and stout against the run. I realize the draft is deep in defensive lineman but I still think you're draft has to be balanced. Multiple holes to fill. Good stuff. Thanks

Also, I'll mention that I think our offensive line wasn't as bad as many thought last year. I pin most of it on coaching. Andrew Tiller played quite well at the RG position. Trent Brown showed promise. Staley is still very good. Kilgore was still in recovery mode. With Anthony Davis potentially coming back, adding a couple guards to this team could help significantly. That's why I like Manny Ramirez because he has G/C experience.
