Manning-Wilson - night and day. Outside of age there really isn't much difference between Kaep and Mariota. Kaep regression can be traced directly to change in scheme (under JH) and just terrible coaching (under Jimmy T.). And I've seen no evidence that Kaep is slowing down or has diminishing skills. For two seasons Kaep skills have been held back and mal-utilized. And that plays a major roll with accuracy. If the coaches are employing a scheme that don't fit the talent accuracy is gonna be among the glaring deficiencies.

Man, you are preaching to the choir. As I've stated, and have been saying, I think we should take a QB in the first and sit him for a season. But I just don't think that's gonna happen. Last season was a mistake of the FO and I think the FO knows that. Even though Kaep has a cap-friendly contract they still have invested a lot of money in him. And he did go to 3 straight conference title games and a SB. Clearly, there's proven winning talent there. So I'm not so sure the FO want's to give up on him.
And as I've stated this roster has much of what Chip wants to do offensively, especially at the QB position. Keep in mind that Chip lobbied to come here. That's no small point! Listen, I'm a football coach myself (and talent scout). And I can tell you that I'm not lobbying to coach any team unless I'm fairly sure I can win with the current roster. Keep in mind that NFL coaches, on average, don't get a long time to turn things around/ Coaches contracts average out about 3 years, so new coaches don't have much time to waste. When coaches lobby to coach a team there's something about the roster that make him think he can be competitive with that roster, now.
I really didn't want Chip as a coach, but he's our coach anyway. So I'm gonna support him and want him to be successful. So when I look at our current roster and what Chip likes to do offensively, Kaep is the best QB with the tools to run his offense since he's had Marcus Mariota. And as we know Marcus Mariota was compared heavily to Kaep, not to mention his accuracy was a major question coming out of college - like Kaep.
That's why, IMHO, we won't be drafting a QB.
Mariota is a better, more accurate version of Kaepernick who also happens to be 6 years younger and getting paid a fraction of what Kaepernick is making. There's a night and day difference in their value - Kaepernick may only be worth a 4th or 5th round pick while Mariota is worth the #1 pick.
Kaepernick's recovery from surgery is the only reason he may be on the roster in 2016 in my opinion (if his contract guarantees).
In terms of his surgery recovery I think we all know what that's really about. This was a chess move by Kaep. And if I were Kaep I'm pretty sure I would have taken the same route. I guarantee you that had things played out differently we would not even be seeing this as an issue. In fact I'd say that he played it beautifully. He's gonna get his money with the opportunity to get his job back under a coach who runs a scheme that fits him. Mark my words, Kaep will be ready for all voluntary and mandatory off/preseason/camp workouts. And any "surgery" will be long forgotten.
