This time last year, it seemed like this forum was buzzing with different threads for running backs that we could bring draft. This year, not so much. I highly doubt we'd use a high pick on a running back, but I can see us drafting one anywhere between the 4th and 7th rounds if we don't bring in a veteran. As much as I like Shaun Draughn, I don't see him as a capable backup. We need someone to backup Carlos Hyde and be comfortable with them carrying the load 20 times a game if necessary just in case Hyde is hurt again. Is there anyone that should be available in 2016 that can play the Kendall Hunter role?

I'd rather save a draft pick, draft some OL or Defense help instead and target a RB next year. Next year's crop of RBs could be insane. Leonard Fournette, Dalvin Cook, Nick Chubb, Jalen Hurd, Samaje Perine, Royce Freeman, Christian McCaffrey, Nick Wilson, Elijah Hood, Marlon Mack will all be draft eligible Jr RBs. The Seniors could be, if they don't declare this year, Shock Linwood, Corey Clement, James Conner, Kareem Hunt, Paul Perkins, Donnel Pumphery, Jahad Thomas, Alex Collins. That's a stacked class.
But if I were to target anyone in this year's draft though, I'd go for Kenneth Dixon from LA Tech or Jonathan Williams of Arkansas.

Devon Johnson is a guy I really like out of Marshall. Goes about 240-245lbs and runs with power. Runs too upright but gets low on contact. Josh Ferguson is a guy I also really like. Smaller guy out of Illinois who has had some injuries, but who can do so much when healthy. He's played WR and is a dynamic return man. He'd be a great 3rd down back

Good topic. I think they can target a RB in the 5th or later.
Assuming Hyde and Droughns are back, a rookie RB could compete for 3rd string/ST.

UCLA homer segment
I really like perkins from UCLA. He is an underrated guy who i think will succeed in the NFL. he isnt flashy like those other RB prospects that never live up to expectations. I could see him being one of those surprising mid round RBs that proves he is starting material. Would be great for depth at RB
He has great vision and patience. All around back. He can run, catch, and pass protect.

After spending a 4th round BUST pick on Lattimore(I so called that sh*t) a 2nd round on Hyde(has shown he can be special at times) and a 4th round pick on Davis(are yall calling him a bust already???)Lets not forget a 2nd round bust pick on Lamichael James ...I'm sick of wasting picks on RB's every da*m year!!!!!

2 good backs. I'd like to see how Williams knee checks out at the senior bowl though

Carlos just keeps on getting hurt, he was like that at Ohio State as well..
I have a gem, i saw him play 2x the past 2 years and I thought he was pretty impressive.. i would personally use a 5th rounder to draft this kid..
DeVon Johnson; RB - Marshall

From one UCLA homer to another, I agree. He's likely day 2/3, but he's got enough polish and talent to get significant snaps.
Of course, Myles Jack could technically be an RB prospect, but he's not mid round.
I think I saw Derrick Henry as a 2nd rounder on some mocks. He and Hyde could be smash brothers.

You talk about Carlos always getting hurt, than say we should get Johnson who was hurt most of this year with shoulder, knee, and back injuries and only played in 6 games this season (3 full games and was hurt in 3 others).

He had a foot injury, not knee. But I agree, if it checks out alright, I'd take him. But it always seems foot injuries seem to have a repeat effect on football players.Originally posted by lamontb:Originally posted by Travisty13:I'd rather save a draft pick, draft some OL or Defense help instead and target a RB next year. I am not going to use the word bust on a player that has only played one season, but the fact that Shaun Draughn, who was signed off the street, has been more productive than he was concerns me. We aren't talking about some guy averaging 3.0 or something a carry. Mike Davis is around a yard or lower. They would be better off measuring his rushes by the foot.
I'm looking for a late round guy (4th to 7th) that can contribute and be counted on to carry the load if necessary. I want Draughn back next season, but I see him as more of a 3rd back.

So far my favriote is James Conner 6'2. 250 lbs runs a 4.5 and physically breaks tackles
