Deshaun Watson, QB, Clemson - Legit alternative to Jared Goff in 2017?

Well, the odds are obviously against any one prospect being drafted by any one team, since there are 32 teams. It doesn't take ant special skill to predict that. Saying it with certainty at this point is just false bravado.
Consider Nick Saban a big believer. Says Watson is most dominant player since Cam Newton:

BRISTOL, Conn. -- During his visit Tuesday to ESPN's campus, Alabama coach Nick Saban happened to see Las Vegas odds that again had his Crimson Tide the favorite to win the national title.

But Saban said he disagreed with the sportsbooks. He said the favorite should be Clemson, which pushed the Tide in the January championship game. The primary reason: The Tigers return Deshaun Watson.

Saban called the junior quarterback "the best player in college football since Cam Newton," who won the Heisman Trophy and a national title at Auburn in 2010.

Watson accounted for 5,214 total yards and 47 touchdowns a season ago, finishing third in the Heisman race behind Alabama running back Derrick Henry and Stanford running back Christian McCaffrey.

Watson and McCaffrey, along with LSU running back Leonard Fournette, are the early favorites for the Heisman award in 2016.

It will be the third consecutive season that Alabama will have a new starting quarterback.

It will be Watson's third year as the starter for Clemson.

"I don't care who we start at quarterback," Saban said. "He ain't going to be that good."

Saban said he entered the title game thinking that Watson was a skilled runner with a powerful arm. But his accuracy impressed the veteran coach.

"He could get the ball into spaces about like this," Saban said, holding his hands about a foot apart. He added that he didn't see any real holes in Watson's game.

During the thrilling 45-40 Alabama win in the championship game, Watson threw for 405 yards and four touchdowns against the Tide, and he added another 73 rushing yards.

Watson, who is set to graduate in December, has indicated he will turn pro after this season. Draft expert Mel Kiper Jr. has Watson at No. 4 on his Big Board and the No. 1 quarterback.

Truth!! draft Watson in the 1st, McCaffrey in the 2nd, Devonte Fields in the 3rd and sign Jeffery as our big off season signing
Bust in the making

Lol at talking up Watson after WINNING the national championship. I wonder if he'd say the same if Alabama loss. No one is saying he's a bad college QB.

But trying to make Watson out like he's some bad ass pocket passer is absurd. He's an explosive player I'll give him that, but I got doubts about his game transferring to the next level.
I still do not understand how or why you think someone who threw for 4000 yards this season who suffered a torn ACL in November of the previous season is not a "bad ass pocket passer". He's not a midget like Manziel who literally had to run around because he couldn't see over the line.

This video was actually posted during his freshman season:

So just because someone passes for 4,000 yards he's a good pocket passer?? So in that case Johnny Manziel must be a solid pocket passer too.

You literally just ignored the preceding comments about Manziel, just like you ignored Saban and pretty much everyone else who watches college football. You do realize that you are majorly swimming upstream on this one, right?

Watson is the #1 overall pick on most of the mock draft lists from major outlets, and I don't think I've seen him outside of the top 5 or maybe top 10 at worst anywhere. The vast majority of the sites I have seen have him at #1.

But Kolohe from the internet knows better than to listen to Nick Saban or even watch a video from a former D1 QB demonstrating Watson's prowess in the pocket as even a true freshman. Yep, you hold all the cards in this argument. Not like he has tons of game tape anyone could pull up and view.

On mobile, but just go to youtube and find tigerray's channel. You can literally watch every game of Watson's career and then get back to me on this pocket presence crap.

Mock Drafts mean absolutely nothing, I remember a ton of Mocks of players who were SUPPOSE to go #1 overall, they mean absolutely nothing....especially in the months of Jan-October.

Yes, Saban gave him praise, no doubt about it the boy can play, BUT he's just not the pocket passer that you make him out to be. Yes, he threw for 4,000+ yards last season, but how many of those yards came from the pocket and how many came from roll-outs yards after catch and/or broken plays??

And lol, how you revert back to an article by Saban or the Alabama game but disregard the Oklahoma game I posted.

You're acting like I'm saying Watson is a bad college player, but that's not my argument at all.

what's wrong with his pocket passing? He hasn't shown anything as far as not being able to throw in the pocket

I know how you feel about him but a lot of those passes were NFL caliber inside and outside of the pocket

Looked like Wilson out there moving the ball against a top 2 defense...that pass at a 1:00 and 4:40 are top end passes
And how am I "disregarding" the OK game? It wasn't his best throwing performance, but he helped control the flow of the game and was a big reason why Clemson could sit on the ball and dominate the second half of that game. He ran all over the Sooners, and then Gallman did the same in the second half.

He is accurate with the ball whether rolling out or in the pocket. Joe Montana and Steve Young rolled out all the time and used their mobility as weapons while still being able to work the pocket. Some people are good enough to be adept all over the field.

will probably win that stupid game again when the season is lost to put us out of the running

I didn't say anything was wrong with his passing, I just don't think he's the pocket passer some are trying to make him out to be. He has a tendency to roll out and bail a lot from the pocket, which net him a lot of plays from outside of the pocket. Being able to throw from the pocket isn't the same as being a pocket passer.
