IMO Goff was a product of Cals system. You saw what happened against Utah last year when they took him out of his system, he threw 5 picks. I'm not saying he is a bad QB, but he needs a proper offensive system to run like GB, KC, or maybe even under Chip to be a legit QB.
Doesnt that apply to pretty much every QB? Like Alex Smith in Jimmy Raye's offense versus Harbaughs as an example.
Goff has a lot of upside but as I said many many times in this thread, he was never a guy ready to play right out of the box. He was always a player that needed time to develop and get comfortable with the NFL game. Ultimately when you take a QB, youre taking a guy for the long haul. If you draft a QB that early, you believe that he can be an 10 year starter for you so if he takes a year to get ready, in the big picture that isnt an issue.
My observations from watching some of his performance in the preseason are that everything was moving too fast for him and he was absolutely getting clobbered whenever playing behind their 2nd string OL which looked to be a collection of Pears and Devey wannabes. He looked unsure of himself and seemed to be rushing through his progressions and forcing passes just to get the ball out.
With that in mind I think he just needs the time to get comfortable and better blocking to give him more time in the pocket but I do expect he will be starting for the Rams next season.
I know its the in thing for all the cool kids to hate on this guy right now after a poor preseason and some have been hating on him just to be contrarian or because they saw him as a threat to replace one of the mediocre quarterbacks on the 49ers roster currently but I still feel good about him being a successful QB in the NFL.
